Can a temporary replacement be named without Senate confirmation? If so, I believe the investigation may be over.

(34,857 posts)Mere months before he resigned, Nixon gave his SOTU speech and essentially proclaimed the investigation over. He received thunderous support from the GOP.
When the House began impeachment charges, one which specifically discussed obstruction charges, most Republicans voted against proceeding.
Had the GOP been in charge then, who knows if Nixon is even forced out of office. But because the Democrats held the House, the rest is history.

So unless we have a traitor Dem Senator (Manchin... lookin at YOU! ) you can't get to 50... for a Pence tie breaker.
