Mere months before he resigned, Nixon gave his SOTU speech and essentially proclaimed the investigation over. He received thunderous support from the GOP.

When the House began impeachment charges, one which specifically discussed obstruction charges, most Republicans voted against proceeding.

Had the GOP been in charge then, who knows if Nixon is even forced out of office. But because the Democrats held the House, the rest is history.

At least Flake will vote with Dems and McCain will likely never return to Congress ( at least for work )

So unless we have a traitor Dem Senator (Manchin... lookin at YOU! ) you can't get to 50... for a Pence tie breaker.
