What are the odds that Trey Gowdy will replace Jeff Sessions as Attorney General ?

Sessions has been rather quite lately. He hasn't been invited to any discussions with the FBI or Justice Dept about the "memo". It appears that Donald has cut him loose.

Then, we have an announcement by Trey Gowdy that he plans on stepping down from Congress and getting back into the "justice" arena? What could he have meant? That he was going back to South Carolina and run for another office? Or that he has been promised a judgeship?

Or that he has had a discussion with Comrade Donald that the AG position will soon be open and would he be interested?

I think the odds are better than 50/50.

which signals to me that he is interested in being appointed to a position that requires Senate confirmation. He knows his chances of being confirmed for a high position in Justice or Judiciary would be enhanced if he appears less partisan and more reasonable.

Between that and everything he’s telling local* reporters, there’s no question that he’s leaving the DC political world.

*I live on the coast of SC and our local news is covering the story from the other side of the state where his district is. He’s going back to be a prosecutor, and I won’t be surprised if he runs for Solicitor (our version of a District Attorney).

In your OP, you quoted him as saying he wants to get back into the Justice system.

But you left this out:

“Whatever skills I may have are better utilized in a courtroom than in Congress, and I enjoy our justice system more than our political system. ”

When does the AG try a case in a courtroom?

I won’t be surprised to learn there’s more to his decision to return to upstate SC. But for now, I’m just going by what’s known, rather than unsupported speculation.

Who knows, though. I’m just glad I don’t live in his district or anywhere near his part of the state. Can’t stand the slimeball.

I’ve been saying for a little bit now that Alabama’s favorite son is coming home very soon. Sessions wants to be loved and they love him. He is going to win back his old seat without issue.

The timing necessary for that and what you state could work out.
