(2,678 posts)what the parents of their injured child are going through. I have a 12 year old in middle school, so it makes me think. Sometimes I wish I wouldnt have waited till I was 47 to have a child. My wife was 40 when she gave birth to our son. Something I try to never think about when watching my son walk off to school, wheeling his baritone, please let Matthew arrive safe back here. Ah, the times we live in. These are things our parents never had to worry about.

The even scarier thing? Every attempt we make to encourage people to disarm is more fuel for the MAGATs. They eat this shit up. They'll pass it off as a conspiracy from the DEEEEEEEEP STATE! They'll harass the victims and tell them to go fuck themselves, and pretend like the shooting never happened. And they'll get backing from the church and community. Fuck they suck.

(11,611 posts)I remember seeing this on MTV when I kid and being shocked by it, especially when I learned that it was based on a real incident. I couldn't understand how a child could do that to other children. Years later (1990) I went with a friend of mine to my former high school so that she could purchase books and school supplies for her Senior year. I noticed several security cameras and a Closed Circuit TV had been installed. They hadn't been there a few months prior when I'd graduated. When I commented to her that it looked strange she said the school was also planning on installing metal detectors by the main door. That shocked me, but times were different then. Mass shootings were happening then, but it wasn't an every day occurrence like it is now.
