I think Wray was trying to be loyal to Trump.

But Trump asked the impossible. Wray could not betray his principles for Donald Trump. Trump wanted him to do things he simply could not do. He got rid of McCabe but under circumstances that were not as vicious as Trump would have wanted. Wray requested that the memo not be released but Trump rebuked his requests. Wray has learned a lesson: With Donald Trump, loyalty is a one-way street.

I saw somewhere on twitter today that Wray took a stand against warrantless surveillance during the Dubbya admin.

Wray is using the same tactic as drumpf's own lawyers by telling drumpf the investigation will be wrapping up "soon". There is nothing worse than a corporate psychopath trying to force you out and/or undermining everything you do.
