(21,629 posts)changing the wording of a document after it has been voted on? That is as improper as it could possibly get. Any one of us that did this on our jobs would be fired.
pangaia
(24,324 posts)And it can get a LOT more 'improper.'
Like the police and military gunning down protesters in the streets..
Takket
(21,629 posts)Which I thought was obvious... But straw man away if you feel the need to defend Nunes.
Straw man?
Defend Nunes?
Are you kidding me?
Of course you meant improper for the conduct of a congressperson. I knew that.
I was saying regardless of what the repubs do, they are not going to impeach themselves.
And if what Nunes just did is 'improper,' which it of course is, that ain't nothin' compared to what is about to happen.
Gore1FL
(21,152 posts)I doubt congress will expel him. Ryan will take whatever course Ryan feels is best for Ryan.
I know none of that reflects optimism on my part, but I think if they were going to reel in Nunes, they would have done it already.
KY_EnviroGuy
(14,494 posts)And, he's got lots to choose from. Ryan does not care so long as committee members have one primary goal - to maintain GOP power.
Regardless, this rampant breaking of norm, protocols, rules and laws must end somehow.

(442 posts)At the very least, he should no longer be allowed to chair such a vital committee and i would think the ethics committee would have a pretty good case for censure. On top of the fact that Rep. Schiff has already charged that chairman Nuñes never read any of the source material that the memo is based on so, if that is true (And i have no reason to doubt congressman Schiff), how was he able to make accurate changes? This should immediately put this bs to rest and ensure that the memo never sees the light of day but, sadly, we're talking about house Republicans.

In 1980 Representative Michael Myers of Pennsylvania was expelled for bribes in connection with the Abscam scandal. In 2002, Representative Jim Traficant of Ohio was expelled after he was convicted on numerous counts of bribery, racketeering, and tax evasion.

I don't know if the duplicitous actions of Nunes would get 2/3 votes in the House, especially *this* House.

(10,057 posts)Unfortunately, the GOP will just rubber stamp the CYA altered memo release....or Trump will just Twitter release it for all to see regardless.
Trump bragged about getting rid of regulations, so why should he care if he and Nunez breaks another. The GOP is impotent.

Phoenix61
(17,019 posts)It's like he has no idea what he is supposed to do. Did Nunes really think it wouldn't be noticed that he changed the document? Was he hoping to pass it off as Twitler having changed it? He makes himself look more guilty every day.
ProudLib72
(17,984 posts)Which version would be released if tRump signed off on it?
Takket
(21,629 posts)Which is bizarre because I don't know what Nunes is supposed to say when the altered memo is released world wide. We deserve to see BOTH documents now and Nunes should be impeached fur this breach of ethics. You don't change documents after a committee has voted on a final version fit release. That's basically forgery.
ProudLib72
(17,984 posts)Could he have wanted the WH memo to seem more damning so Donnie would sign off on it? Or was he trying to sneak false information (or information considered too highly classified for release) past the committee? Plus, I want to know if the WH had a hand in this redacting. Now THAT would be extremely interesting indeed!
GusBob
(7,286 posts)What did add to the memo and why did he add it
The why is easy.....he wanted to sneak something out of the committee
As for what he added.....I guess we shall see?
I'm guessing he threw an accusation against Obama or Clinton in the altered memo
Something political. This whole thing is political

(90 posts)Chairman Nunes having nowhere to go except stocking fruit shelves in Walmart is apparently afraid of losing his congressional seat and therefore has turned to polishing apples for Trump. He is by every definition a sycophant of the lowest order. It appears he's sucking up in hopes of becoming a lobbyist for a right wing cause when he's voted out of office in November. Then again who would be interested in such a dumb ass.

(6,212 posts).... he put up for the committee vote. Knowing the true memo would not make it through the committee vote. AND the actual memo is the changes Schiff discovered tonight. Trump isn't the one being fooled. It's the GOP committee members that have been tricked by Nunes and Trump.

Not giving up, but I do think it's going to take an

(2,921 posts)This has never happened before in the history of the US. The Democrats and Republicans both had access to classified information. They both created notes. They then voted to allow for the release of the Republican cherry picked ones. They did not vote for the Democrats to be released. That means every Democrat had the opportunity to review for security purposes and factual errors what is in the Republican memo. And they strenuously objected during committee. The CIA and the DOJ already know it is riddled with lies. And Trump can further redact whatever else he wants to fit his guilty paranoid narrative. The FBI nor the DOJ has not said the Democratic 11 page memo has a single inaccuracy or manipulated fact in it. The fact that Miller and other white house staff like fellow racist, white nationalist General Kelly worked on it with Trump is a full on admission of collusion, obstruction of justice and money laundering. Speaker Ryan will go to jail with them all.
