In Texas acceptable ID to register to vote is a concealed carry permit iszsued by a law enforcement agency
yet:
a student ID issued by a state school is not considered acceptable ID to register to vote.
Two problems here: it shows we value guns and vioplence more than education and,
the fucking NRA has it's claws in another imension of society: the voting process.

(20 posts)Hi, I'm new here. Been reading this forum for years and totally love it here.
I understand where you're coming from but in this case I see nothing wrong with this and don't see that it has anything to do with the NRA.
The concealed license is a state issued ID but the student ID is not.
Thus the state can accept one and not the other.
As a matter of fact from what I've read the state runs you through very extensive background checks, both state and national (fbi), to get your concealed license ID.
Much more so than when you get a driver's license.
So if anything it's more valuable if anything than a driver's license when it comes to just ID'ing a person and making sure they are who they claim they are.
Great forum!!!!!!!
Thanks

(26,344 posts)The repigs in the State Legislatures want gun owners to vote and not students. It's all part of a larger nationwide voter suppression scheme.
The bottom line is they shouldn't be requiring ANY photo ID. But if they do, a STATE issued school ID should more than suffice. We are not talking about access to state secrets or nuclear weapons for Christ sake.
The ID requirements are a solution without a problem. Actual VOTER fraud is virtually non-existent. Not to be confused with ELECTION FRAUD which is certainly a problem... of which VOTER SUPPRESSION is a major component.
