The state has the highest rate of overdose deaths in the country.

Drug companies hosed tiny towns in West Virginia with a deluge of addictive and deadly opioid pills over the last decade, according to an ongoing investigation by the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

For instance, drug companies collectively poured 20.8 million hydrocodone and oxycodone pills into the small city of Williamson, West Virginia, between 2006 and 2016, according to a set of letters the committee released Tuesday. Williamson’s population was just 3,191 in 2010, according to US Census data.

WV demanded that many pills. I doubt the companies just up and shipped random boxes of pills to anybody. They were ordered by pharmacies in WV, and the Co's were only to happy to oblige

13. A lot of it does go back to the drug companies.

Oxycontin was designed to be used for late stage cancer pain. The company that produced it had to know that there weren't really a billion+ doses needed for such a drug.

Everyone probably remembers the term "hillbilly heroin" and story after story of pharmacy being burglarized. That was about 15 years ago. How come nothing was done back then? Something very dirty in this whole thing.

So what the hell are they doing about it??? - State and local govt. what the hell are they doing about it?? Manchin brings Huntington Fire chief to SOTU to bring attention to the problem??

If I were governor - or mayor or Fire Chief for that matter I would be activating my AG and investigate every order for opioids from everywhere - not just give lip service and create favorable optics at a SOTU
