What will McConnell and Ryan do to fix the "sanctions" vote that the President ignored?

The Senate passed sanctions on Russia by a vote of 98-2 and the House only had 3 dissenting votes. It was over-whelming in both houses of Congress.

But the President ignored it. It doesn't mean anything if he doesn't like it. Once again, he has taken the side of Putin over America's interests.

What can we expect from Mitch "Henry Clay" McConnell ? Will he agree with Trump or will he stand up for the institution of the Senate and the laws of our Constitution?

..how is he still able to ignore it? Isn't there a process for when that happens? If not what is the point?

I know, I know......that question is meaningless now. But still.

by this past Monday. That was not done and a statement was included in a tweet that made the rounds here on DU regarding what their plans were going to be.

Meanwhile the NYT had an article today that had the following -

Trump Administration Holds Off on New Russia Sanctions, Despite Law

By REUTERS JAN. 30, 2018, 1:18 A.M. E.S.T.

<...>

Senator Bob Corker, the Republican chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, one of the main congressional architects of the sanctions law, said he was not concerned that the administration did not announce sanctions by Monday's deadline.

"This is when sanctions season begins, and so they'll be rolling them out," he told reporters.

"We feel pretty good about the process," Corker said. "They're rushing the information over to us today, and by the close of business, they're going to have two of the three, as I understand it. So they're taking it very seriously."

I know Corker is supposedly retiring and has been critical in the past, but am not sure how much he believes that the WH is "rushing the information over" to him.... but we shall see!

Trump Signs Russian Sanctions Into Law, With Caveats

By PETER BAKER and SOPHIA KISHKOVSKY AUG. 2, 2017

WASHINGTON — President Trump signed legislation on Wednesday imposing sanctions on Russia and limiting his own authority to lift them, but asserted that the measure included “clearly unconstitutional provisions” and left open the possibility that he might choose not to enforce them as lawmakers intended.

The legislation, which also includes sanctions on Iran and North Korea, represented the first time that Congress had forced Mr. Trump to sign a bill over his objections by passing it with bipartisan, veto-proof majorities. Even before he signed it, the Russian government retaliated by seizing two American diplomatic properties and ordering the United States to reduce its embassy staff members in Russia by 755 people.

The measure reflected deep skepticism among lawmakers in both parties about Mr. Trump’s friendly approach to President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia and an effort to prevent Mr. Trump from letting the Kremlin off the hook for its annexation of Crimea, military intervention in Ukraine and its meddling in last year’s American election. Rather than the rapprochement Mr. Trump once envisioned, the United States and Russia now seem locked in a spiral of increasing tension.

Unlike other bill signings, Mr. Trump did not invite news media photographers to record the event, nor did he say anything about it to reporters. He ignored questions about the legislation at an unrelated event and instead relegated his comments to two written statements, one meant for Congress to describe caveats in his approval of the bill and the other issued to reporters to explain his grudging decision to sign.

He apparently included a "signing statement" (remember those?) with it.

It's up to Congress regarding how to react.

Here is his signing statement for others in the thread -

https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/statement-president-donald-j-trump-signing-countering-americas-adversaries-sanctions-act/

What it says in part -

My Administration has attempted to work with Congress to make this bill better. We have made progress and improved the language to give the Treasury Department greater flexibility in granting routine licenses to American businesses, people, and companies. The improved language also reflects feedback from our European allies – who have been steadfast partners on Russia sanctions – regarding the energy sanctions provided for in the legislation. The new language also ensures our agencies can delay sanctions on the intelligence and defense sectors, because those sanctions could negatively affect American companies and those of our allies.

I believe some media outlets are already noting this. This is not my condoning of what he is doing but it is what is being used to justify what he is doing.

McConnell and Ryan will just drag it out to a slow death and will never hold Trump accountable. Then try to spin it somehow to blame the democrats.
