(4,066 posts)I'm just guessing that might be what you are thinking. It was my first thought when I saw you post. I think you have grounds for your statement based on that action of his.

It's his own damn fault.

(1,660 posts)Plus it takes a long time to root out a viper's nest in a bureaucratic institution like the FBI. The nest can be born in secret, and a degree of omerta keeps it secret. The fact that Comey had the authority to root it out doesn't mean he had the means. And he got torpedoed below the waterline as a result. Giuliani and Prince appear to have been the ringleaders.
Saying it's his own damn fault doesn't mean he could have done anything about it in the time he had, especially given the other players.
The story of what went down is in this Twitter thread. If you can read it with an open mind and still blame Comey, I give up.

(1,660 posts)If you don't then you're simply judging him because you didn't like the outcome, and are unwilling to consider that larger stakes may be in play here. Like Democracy, the Constitution, and a continuing possibility that America will fulfill her potential.
I'm willing to hold off on razor-blade judgements until I know a bit more. My anger would only hurt me, it wouldn't help the crisis.

(53,787 posts)among other things, suspected spy Carter Page and his ties to Russia and the trump campaign.
Are you inferring that not announcing that investigation was more important than actually announcing a fake investigation into Hillary's campaign thereby swinging the election to trump?
Nah, who the president is and knowing she is not a Russian asset instead of trump who may be a Russian asset is more important (the trump administration today signaled they are not putting in place the new sanctions on Russia that Congress voted to imposeRussian asset or not. You decide).

(1,660 posts)But I don't know if they were in play here. I can readily admit the possibility though, knowing what I do about Gerasimov, Dugin, Surkov and Putin. I'm just not rushing to hang Comey from the yardarm until I have a better understanding of what game was in play, and what his strategic motives were.
Partly of course I'm influenced by my perceptions of the man. I see him as a courageous, stand-up guy who is loyal to the constitution and isn't normally given to casually flicking presidential candidates into the dustbin of history. Now that's just my personal impression of the guy. But even if he were utterly venal to the core, we still have no evidence of the game that was in play around him.

(53,787 posts)And if Comey was all about country and fairness and all that he should've kept quiet about Hillary or announced both investigations.
He played an out-sized role in installing trump into the White House.

(498 posts)So which is it? Russia hacked our election or the only reason trump won is because of Comey? I don't think you can't have both.
I don't give a **** about Comey. He seemed like a decent guy doing his job when during the hearings but whatever...
And yes, of course Trump colluded/conspired/aided/abetted a foreign power.

Comey may have been an unwilling participant, but he was a participant, from the July briefing to the October letter, his actions had a big effect.

(92,219 posts)days before the election, and when the republicans and the news media said that the "email investigation was reopened", which was a LIE, and paraded every right wing politician across the television screen propagating that lie for days, Comey was unavailable to correct that LIE.
As far as I am concerned Comey bears much of the responsibility for the garbage that is in the WH today

Instead of these tweets, why dont you speak up loudly and clearly for your country? You are a private citizen now. Im sure that there are things you can talk about without harming any investigations, things that would help clear up confusion in many minds.
