Of course we know the really hard core racists aka KKK and neo-Nazis will always love him. How about the rest? I would hope the percentage is close to over 50%, if not much higher. I suppose if you're racist enough to vote for Trump despite all the evidence, you might not be ashamed? I rarely talk to Republicans, so I don't any clue to an answer.

(115,693 posts)It was very hard to find anyone who would admit to having voted for him. Instead of saying, "Damn, I was so stupid for voting for Trump!" they'll just claim they didn't vote for him.

(37,457 posts)It takes too much moral integrity to admit a mistake of that proportion. Admitting the mistake publicly implies wanting to do something to make amends, which is probably too much trouble for his people.

(20,760 posts)After WWII, while the Allies were occupying Germany, then helping with reconstruction, it seemed like every single German citizen they met, worked with, etc., had not voted for or supported Hitler, unless they were coerced. It was amazing... every German who'd wholeheartedly supported Hitler had either been killed in the fighting, or fled!
Ditto Italy and Mussolini.
It's almost impossible to find anyone in Chile who supported Pinochet.
The Marcoses in the Phillipines? Who? Well... someone supported them, obviously. But you'd have a hard time finding their remaining fans today.
There isn't a Spaniard alive today who will admit to supporting Franco.
And of course, no one voted for Nixon. Amazing... seriously, someone should open an investigation into the voter fraud and election meddling that allowed him to win in 1972.

"I didn't vote for president that year."
My uncle -- staunch Republican-- just said, "I voted for the GOP just like always." I pointed out that this meant the GOP could run the devil and he'd vote for him, and he said yeah, he probably would.

(65,042 posts)Guys at work I am certain who voted for "it", are now saying they left that blank on their ballot.
They were too giddy the day after the election for that to be remotely believable. But, they're claiming otherwise a year later.

(51,593 posts)who is a neo Nazi. I will finally speak to her one last time...to tell her she is as stupid as the fucking moron. No more Birthday or Christmas cards or calls from me in the future. We WERE friends from Parson's (art school) and I "drew" the line on our friendship after she wrote that she has been drinking the kool-aid and I am delusional for not being enamored with "our wonderful president and leader".

(5,526 posts)This is the danger of having a supporting network of TV, radio and internet keeping the faithful misled. Add to that, a fair number of sitting congress to give those outlets a veneer if credibility and you have a fairly tight floor on his support
The only question is whether the outcome is so obvious and horrendous that those elements turn on him as well. I had assumed that would happen. But now I see that they are willing to undermine the FBI and intelligence agencies in the effort, so I have to reassess just how craven these people are.
If the support structure does abandon him then the numbers of supporters will drop. But if they toe the line throughout, then we will still see high levels of support who will consider it a coup. Very dangerous and possibly ungovernable situation.
