President Trump broke with top officials at the Justice Department and called for the release of a classified memo purported to list Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) abuses by the U.S. government, The Washington Post reported Saturday.
Despite warnings from top officials at the agency, Trump reportedly told Attorney General Jeff Sessions through Chief of Staff John Kelly that he wants to see the memo released, believing that it will shed light on the special counsel investigation.
Trump is inclined to have that released just because it will shed light, a senior administration official told the Post.
Apparently all the rumors are that it will shed light, it will help the investigators come to a conclusion," the official added.

(4,533 posts)The memo relates to alleged impropriety in spying on Trump or his minions. They claim the dossier, an unverified partisan document, was used to improperly obtain search warrants. But to get a FISA search warrant the investigators submit an affidavit under penalty of perjury stating why there is probable cause to believe a crime was committed, with relevant documents or other evidence attached. The affidavit(s) will show whether there was evidence independent of the dossier. Why rely on the memo from Nunes when we can just look at the affidavit? Trump has access to the affidavit(s), he can release them, he can redact any classified material. Congress has asked him for this. He has refused! That pretty much proves there is evidence independent of the dossier proving that a crime probably happened. The opinion of Nunes is just his opinion. The affidavit is reality.

(33,643 posts)The multi-agency joint task force whose creation led directly to the application for the FISA warrant ... was convened before the FBI received the dossier from Steele, and it's creation was based on intel supplied directly from our allies intel services (reportedly a Baltic state, but they probably got info from the Dutch, and others ... perhaps the Aussie diplomat the Papadopolous blabbed to?).
The GOP love to parrot the 'partisan unverified dossier used to get FISA warrant!!!!!!11!' bullshit, but they have no proof of that.
Not to mention, OF COURSE it was 'unverified'!
1) at time of the warrant request they had JUST GOT IT (not 100% on timing, first attempt may have even been pre-Dossier receipt).
2) The way you VERIFY things like what's in the Dossier ... is to GET WARRANTS and FCKING INVESTIGATE ... DERP!
How stupid do they think we are? Or how stupid are they, actually?
