This ex-NSA hacker is hunting white supremacists and hate groups lurking on Twitter

http://www.businessinsider.com/ex-nsa-hacker-created-a-tool-to-identify-white-supremacists-online-2018-1

Twitter and Facebook say hate speech is a violation of their policies but they also say it can be hard to identify who is engaged in bona fide hate speech and who isn't.

Twitter demonstrated the problem earlier this week when it came under fire for blocking a German satirical magazine’s Twitter account after it parodied anti-Muslim comments.

Enter Emily Crose, a former NSA analyst, cybersecurity professional and former Reddit moderator.

Crose was appalled by the neo nazi marchers at Charlottesville, Virginia, and the violence that killed three people and injured dozens more. One of the people attacked and injured was Crose's friend.

So she's taken it upon herself to develop a technology she calls nemesis. It uses artificial intelligence to identify white nationalists by scanning the pictures and videos they post. nemesis is looking for the symbols they use to identify themselves, their so called "dog whistles." These might include neo-Confederate flags or certain takes on Pepe the frog.

Her goal with NEMESIS is to help educate people but also to show social media sites how they can find white supremacists and "enforce some decency on their own platforms," she told Motherboard's Lorenzo Franceschi-Bicchierai.

All clowns like this to Norway??? What I find ludicrous and hypocritical is the fact that these groups are NOT new to ameriKKKa. As long as they were 'quiet' about their racial and cultural hate, not a word mentioned really. Then the albino POS called their potus gave them the green light to hate openly and all the sudden everyone can't understand how many of these people there are. I've heard, "racism has never been this bad". Really?????

when the light's turned on. It's hard to kill roaches in the dark, especially when you have to squish them one by one.

if and when they get posted on a site like this.

I don't have twitter or facebook, or a cell phone, or a youtube account. This computer I use is extremely old and part broken.

But I have a good memory and a lot of hard copy anti nazi stuff. I have a decent anti-nazi long view, historically, and have been in the game since the early '80's.

I'll tip off people about NEMESIS, that I know and who are hightech and have online presences. Thanks again. I've been a big booster about 'little bird' and the people who monitored the nazi 'echoes' garbage. I promote the Kristi Winters Kevin Logan anti-nazi group from youtube, too.

Never underestimate a post menopausal woman with zest...Margaret Mead.

And of course, young women are leading the charge because they are so much wiser than we were then.

If there are any fans of Masterpiece Theater on DU today, you may recall the Miss Marple series that ran from 2007 to about 2012. Nemesis was one of her code-names, but as an older retired woman Miss Marple just tended her roses and solved murders.

In any case this effort by Emily Crose shows how women are contributing their abilities in order to affect change and bring about improvement. That's the definition of leadership, in my book. Well done, Agent Crose!

If so, maybe someone can answer that question. I only know that white supremacists have adopted the image.
