Pelosi Statement on New Revelations that President Trump Ordered the Firing of Special Counsel Robert Mueller

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued this statement following new reports that President Trump ordered the firing of Special Counsel Robert Mueller last June, but was stymied when White House Counsel Donald McGahn threatened to quit:

“Reports that President Trump attempted to fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller are part of a grave pattern of attempts by the President to undermine and obstruct the ongoing investigations into Russia’s interference in our elections.

“Equally stunning is the GOP Congress’ complicity in the White House’s interference in these investigations.
January 6th marked one year since the U.S. intelligence community released its assessment that the Russians interfered in our election and will do it again. Russia’s attack on our democracy represents one of the greatest national security threats of our generation. Yet House Republicans refuse to fully investigate the threat and instead are waging a campaign to impugn the credibility of our nation’s law enforcement.

“It’s long overdue for House Republicans to put party aside and join Democrats to do what’s right to protect our national security and our democracy.”

The grave pattern of attempts by @realDonaldTrump to undermine & obstruct the effort to #FollowTheFacts on Russia is striking.

It does need to happen....but, I keep hearing how Mueller will focus strongly on not affecting the outcome of an election...So, not sure how this can roll out....GOP obstruction is definitely strong.
