(11 posts)The U.S. system is Federal and adversarial as laid out in the Constitution. The parliamentary systems have the ability to vote no confidence and bring down a government. The U.S. Constitution does not provide for this, but does require frequent congressional elections. Parliamentary elections are not at fixed intervals and can be called when public opinion is more favorable to the party in power.
Although the Canadians, British and French have their scandals, there is a greater sensitivity the public opinion. This more related to their political cultures, which derive from the structure of their governments. There is thus no real need to invoke fascist comparisons.

(2,771 posts)I agree it's important. Hope that it will be investigated, prosecuted, rectified or stopped from occurring again has long ago vanished for me. The Republican desire for power crushes everything.

(7,434 posts)targets. This will be part of the evidence in a RICO charge against the GOP leadership, and it's one of the reasons that Mueller's investigation is so deep and wide. There's the GOP/RICO, there's the Russian mafia, there's the whole money laundering network, there's Trumpy's real estate crimes... there's enough to prosecute over 270 people. When it's reported that this is the biggest criminal investigation in all of US history, there's no joking around.

(2,697 posts)But I'm almost afraid to think it possible. The entire leadership of the Russian-sucking GOP part of the investigation and vulnerable to indictment? Ryan and McConnell -- along with their troglodytic underlings -- found guilty of raketeering and sentenced to prison? That would be as good as Steve Martin's famously wished-for 31 day orgasm. I only hope it's more likely.

(10,048 posts)Ryan, McConnell, and the RNC took the info and ran with it.
This was not your typical oppositional research. This was handed to them and they either knew the why and how and what will you owe for using this, or they did not bother to ask. I am pretty sure they knew it was not from God.

(1,474 posts)Ryan - "We have to keep this in the family."
GOP is kissing trump's orange ass because they fear him throwing them under the bus when Mueller comes knocking.
It is obvious. GOP and trump colluded with Russian-Putin Organized Crime Syndicate to win in 2016 and probably before.
NRA is part of the syndicate. So are a lot of uber-Rich GOP donors. Mercers for example.

(2,550 posts)That comment about keeping it in the family was made after the observation that trump and that CA congressman were getting Putin backing. Seems to me this coulda/shoulda been used in response to the secret society bullshit.

(4,723 posts)These people are scum of the earth. Amoral, greedy scum with the gall to lecture about morality. The whole damned party is rotten to the core. Even those from that party who are not guilty of these vile acts are guilty of sitting idly by while the crimes go on and get covered up. Sickening.

(49,036 posts)Pelosi may have known the collusion for a fact by way of Intelligence Community documents shown to her in her official capacity and under hard secrecy oaths.
She may not have been able to use that proof in public.
Going forward with sensational allegations that could not be proven in public could very easily backfire and throw a close election the other way, i.e. Hillary losing the popular vote as well as the stolen Electoral College.
So until more is uncovered about the events I do not fault Pelosi.

It was like I was standing out there naked, said Annette Taddeo, a Democrat who lost her primary race after secret campaign documents were made public. I just cant describe it any other way. Our entire internal strategy plan was made public, and suddenly all this material was out there and could be used against me.
AshLee Strong, a spokeswoman for Mr. Ryan, said he did not control how the material was used in the ad, although she did not dispute that the material had been stolen as part of an act of Russian espionage. Speaker Ryan has said for months that foreign intervention in our elections is unacceptable, she said in a written statement.

"We have allowed our campaign finance laws to become a strategic threat to our country."
So, Putin proxies/Russian oligarchs like Len Blavatnik broke no laws in 2015-2016 when he
"pumped $6.35 million into GOP political action committees, with millions of dollars going to top Republican leaders"
How the hell are the Democrats going to retake control of Congress if this is allowed to continue?
And if the GOP continues to control Congress after the 2018 elections, how the hell is Drumpf ever going to be impeached?
(This is extremely depressing)

(714 posts)If all the bullshit over the last couple of years regarding intellectual property have taught us anything, it's that the legal view is that information is a possession.
So Ms. Pelosi "asked him to stop". Why didn't she just report that Mr. Ryan was committing a crime? If I can have my phone bricked because I changed the hardware myself, why did Mr. Ryan's crime result in a mildly worded letter?

(6,262 posts)He ignored it. How did he know? Good buddy Priebus (also Wisconsin) probably told him before he (allegedly) told Mueller. Walker, Ryan and Priebus are long-time teammates to destroy Wisconsin and then on to the nation.
They are tight - according to some of my very few connected Repug friends who have been active at high levels for many years. These friends ( Romney types) are so plugged in that their kids are in on the big business deals (ex. FoxConn) in my formerly great state.
Ryan just may be the worst of the lot. If it can be proved that he knew for a fact back in June that Dump tried to obstruct by firing Mueller, then he is a part of it.
I always knew Ryan was bad, but the last few years have revealed he is nasty to his very sanctimonious core. Plus now he has power he never had before.
Working here to see him derailed, but his money runs wide and deep.
