I've been wanting to get involved in something and looking for Dem associations online, but most of them just seem to want to talk at you and ask for donations. I even looked at local Dem Party units.
Are any of you involved in a group that actually does something besides social activities and talk? Any suggestions?

(32,064 posts)We have a group called Valley Voices United for Change. We meet once a month to discuss issues we are passionate about and/or come up with strategies on how to fight back and make a positive change. We've done some protests, we staged a mock funeral, we do letter writing campaigns, etc. One thing we did last year was we collected post cards on which we asked people (friends, relatives, anyone who wanted to) to write three concerns they had with this administration, and they were hand delivered to Rob Portman's office. The number of cards we had filled up a huge bag. We're kind of loosely organized and mostly work at the grassroots level. They have never asked me for money. I've never been involved in anything political in my life, but this past election has motivated me to try and do SOMETHING. I know lots of others who are the same. Maybe you could start a loosely formed grassroots level group yourself?

(31,261 posts)They send out funding mailers, but also have active local groups. I strongly suggest that you spend more time with your local democratic committee, including going to as many meetings as you can. By going to more meetings, you can meet a larger cross-section of Democrats.

(4,492 posts)But Democracy for AMerica (DFA) and Progressive Change Campaign Committee (Bold Progressives) have predictive dialers where you can call for endorsed candidates from anywhere in the country.
If you're looking for social activities look local. Lots of local parties have groups like Drinking Liberally.
