Julian Assanges long stay in the Ecuadorian embassy in London is having a dangerous impact on his physical and mental health, according to clinicians who carried out the most recent assessments of him.
The pair renewed calls for the WikiLeaks publisher to be granted safe passage to a London hospital.

(16,423 posts)1. Karl Rove? Where the f**k did you get that from?
2. The actual charge was not rape but something between sexual assault and rape, a definition that only exists in swedish law. The charge was that he had consensual sex with a woman but lied about wearing a condom.
3. If you read Assange's old online-dating profile, you will see that he's an arrogant, pretentious, pseudo-intellectual douchebag who sees ordinary women as beneath him. Would such a person lie about wearing a condom?
4. First, it wasn't a "right-wing government". It was center-right.

Second, what counts as "center-right" in Europe would count as Democrats in the US.

"Taken together, President Correa's actions and the provisions of the new constitution present a serious challenge to Ecuadorian media and freedom of the press."
Elsewhere, the documents warned of weaknesses in Ecuador's judicial system. One cable on terrorism warned: "Ecuador's judicial institutions remained weak, susceptible to corruption, and heavily backlogged with pending cases."
Another cable, which prompted Ecuador to expel the US ambassador to the country, accused Ecuador's commander of police of using his position "to extort cash and property, misappropriate public funds, facilitate human trafficking, and obstruct the investigation and prosecution of corrupt colleagues", concluding that "corruption among Ecuadorian national police officers is widespread and well-known".

(39,171 posts)There were four charges, none of which mentioned lying about a condom.

(21,786 posts)The finding in the British high court was that the charge would have amounted to a charge of rape under English law. This was extensively covered here, some years ago.

(26,404 posts)For the longest, I thought they were getting him for what is essentially a misdemeanor. However, the more I read up on what he did, it would be categorized as rape.
Given his status as someone who does Putin's dirty work in laundering leaks, I've got little sympathy for his situation.

Your post makes no sense and defies reality. I'm guessing you would refer to them as #alternativefacts.
Moreno is flat out sick of Assange. They cannot back down this late in the came.
Correa calls Moreno a "traitor" and "wolf in sheeps clothing".

(68,667 posts)He is also a rapist as defined by Swedish laws. Some might consider lying about wearing a condom...not rape. But is the law. And lying about wearing a condom is shitty thing to do...given the risk of STD's and pregnancy. Fuck Assange. Here is hoping he spends the rest of his days in prison. He is not progressive nor is he a whistleblower.

Piece of shit has serious mommy issues. Most likely why he is such a sexist pig who believes he is above the law.

(7,257 posts)Well, comparatively speaking (the NHS in England and Wales is struggling under not-so-creeping privatization).
But the Tory government's been clamping down on non-citizens using NHS services for free. The days when anyone could wander into an A&E department and be treated as required without questions asked are history. Assange is an Australian citizen, and also, since earlier this month, an Ecuadorian one.
If his health's so bad, I imagine the embassy could scrape together the money for whatever treatment's necessary. Getting him to a hospital if he needs it is the problem, as he's got a warrant out for breach of bail.
The UK Prison Service would offer treatment free of charge, of course.

(63,223 posts)In it, he decried the proliferation of "fake news" and, more specifically, the ability of mainstream media to decide what is and is not "fake news."
Curiously, no one asked him what he gets out of serving as Putin's Minister of Propaganda, nor why he worked actively to undermine the Clinton campaign.
I would shed no tears if this asshole's time as come.

(1,202 posts)I imagine mental health or mental fatigue issues are present, but are all of his own making. Others in far worse conditions have survived, learned and developed a mental capacity for dealing with confinement. He has access to reading materials, his computer, tv, healthy prepared meals, a soft clean bed and private bathroom, and likely an in house gym.
I won't feel an ounce of pity for the smug little prick that comes out on the balcony of the Equadorian Embassy, just to pass along more of his smirking, traitorous, rhetoric.

(25,546 posts)He has had plenty of opportunities to leave.
If he had gone to Sweden, he would have been done with his sentence by now.
Didn't the statute of limitations run out for his crime over there?
And isn't he claiming that he won't leave the embassy because "The US will arrest him".
Doesn't Trump love him?

(1,009 posts)It is unconscionable that Mr Assange is in the position of having to decide between avoiding arrest and potentially suffering the health consequences, including death, and the need to call an ambulance if a life-threatening crisis such as a heart attack were to occur.
How many here...and well, globally...are suffering the health effects of Trump? How many heart attacks, strokes, and stress related illnesses?
Please, cry me a river.
