(11,292 posts)How is that Christian ? The New Testament is the Christian teaching last I knew. It fits, The GOP is the old fashioned testament.

(11,578 posts)In its current iteration, there's little to do with actual Biblical teachings. They are skilled at reading/taking scriptures out of context.
it is about racist sexism. They have used the abortion issue to woe women to vote along with them.

As Barbara said to George HW after birthing W: "George, I told you that you should have pulled out earlier!"

(3,168 posts)Even though we all know that Trump doesnt give a shit about abortion, since outlawing it would never affect him. If one of his wives or mistresses needed or wanted an abortion, hed have no problem flying them somewhere and paying for it. In fact, Id almost guarantee that he HAS paid for one or more at some point in his life.

(9,736 posts)He has probably never made any graven images for himself to worship, and maybe he honored his father and his mother. As for the others, certainly he has worshiped money and power, failed to observe the Sabbath day, borne false witness, committed adultery, coveted his neighbors' goods, stolen, and, for all we know, killed or caused to be killed, which is the same thing. As for taking the Lord's name in vain, he's from Queens. I guarantee he does it at least ten times a day.

(11,571 posts)His "business" was a BARELY legal scam, that could have been toppled by lawsuits, but not by charges of fraud. He knew the fraud laws well. His favourite passage:
"The wealth of a sinner is stored up for the righteous." Claims to have learned that from Creflo Dollar. Probably did.
He had a staff of young women - all single mothers who REALLY needed the work, and he stopped paying them. I heard with my own ears that God had told him not to sell his possessions, especially the Harley, because he was going to teach his (future tense, imaginary) son to ride on that one.
And yes, he stopped paying me, too. Amazingly, it was just after he bought an Escalade and took 3 other people to LV, where he flashed his largess with a dinner in the Luxor steakhouse. $2960 for dinner for 4.
So nothing surprises me from this crowd. OK....the fact that he was only Creflo Dollar Crazy and not Rushdoony Crazy is a mild surprise. But then, he's got everything he needs from the name-it-and-claim-it sect, and doesn't need the truly Old Testament on crack teachings.

(11,571 posts)...I continued to work there after realizing what a scam it was, but in my defense, I really WAS trying to ameliorate these people's issues. I would do my best to actually WORK with them, instead of shining them on when taking a phone call from one of them when he was cornered...and I hear there was some inexplicable inventory shrinkage and unscheduled shipping manifests.
I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to hazard a guess on how those things happened.

(52,332 posts)there are certainly plenty of people who are both religious and moral;
plenty of people who are neither;
and plenty of people who are moral and not religious.
but the ones who are religious but not moral are the most infuriating.
not only are the missing what most consider the main point of religion, but they think that their religiosity is proof that they are moral, all actions to the contrary.

(570 posts)Look at their undying support for Newt Gingrich. Cheated on wife #1 with wife #2. He even served wife #1 divorce papers while she was undergoing treatment for cancer. Then cheated on wife #2 with wife #3 at the same time he was going after Clinton. Hasnt had enough scrutiny to find out who hes cheated with since. But a leopard doesnt change his spots. . . Neither do orange-faced buffoons like Donald.

(14,176 posts)Was the almost biblical worshiping of GW Bush.
But what totally delegitimizes the evangelical Christian religion, is not the brash leaders, the TV crooks, the mega church millionaires, who all preach to their congregations to vote for Trump. Its the silent majority, (i hope its the majority) At least a good percent of them, that sit on their hands, zip their mouths, and pretend its all God's plan....because that's what everyone else is saying. They don't want to rock the boat. Its so much easier to not actually think for themselves. You know, compare what Trump says and does with what Jesus would say and do. And come to the obvious conclusion. And then go further and publicly denounce Trump. Get themselves some holy balls. That a religion, which is obviously more like a cult, can have that much control over normally decent, honest, smart people, and cow them into meek silence is disturbing.

(14,176 posts)Is that second one an actual book?
Now that takes some holy balls!
I wonder how long they had to go through images to find one where Trump isn't smirking, or in general looking like a complete dotard. One of those times when some sycophant was singing his praises no doubt. The one time where he gets contemplative. "yes yes...I AM a wonderful President aren't I?"

God and Donald Trump may very well be one of the most important books about the Trump presidency.
