https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/wp/2018/01/22/why-is-the-media-mostly-ignoring-the-womens-march/?utm_term=.e6ac7f71c571This Saturday was the second annual Womens March. You might remember it. Perhaps you read a news story about it.
Or maybe, perchance, you even attended one. Lots of people did! In Los Angeles, an estimated 350,000 people took to the streets, and in Chicago, 300,000. New York City claimed 200,000. Even red states saw decent-size turnouts. Nashville saw 15,000 and Omaha 8,000.
But after the initial flurry of media attention crickets. According to an analysis by Media Matters for America, the Sunday morning news shows all but ignored the mass event. Meet the Press granted the subject a mere 20-second exchange and the NBC show was the most generous of the lot.
As pollster Matt McDermott of Whitman Insight Strategies wrote on Twitter this weekend:

The good news is that Trump's campaign party got less coverage. Much less.

(17,235 posts)being bombarded with all of it! I keep hearing about Stormy and I keep checking the weather. The marchers were and are the most important and there is a lot of strength for the many causes.

If you ignore them they will shut up and "settle down".
If not, just burn them at the stake.
What the patriarchy doesn't understand is that this time is different.
I don't think women are going to shut up and "settle down."
The 21st century is ours.
Finally.

(51,638 posts)announce the March! I posted it DU on Nov. 29 when I first learned of it. I posted it on a zillion forums between then and this weekend. No one heard about it from Joy or Rachel either. WHY?!?!?!?! I wrote and wrote......nothing ever was said by any news station.
I do not have social media so I do not know how word got out. I belong to a lot of Dem groups and activist mailing lists so that is how I learn about it (gmail).
After last year's March we were told the energy would fade. I said, "Not with me!" and kept going and resisting in many events and in various activities. My neighbor said the same thing even though she attended the 2017 March. This year she ate her words and attended too.
I was part of a nationwide call last night with MoveOn, Indivisible, The Women's March, etc. and we are going to keep revisiting by supporting ALL women and minorities and young people to run for office from local dog catcher to congressperson. March, walk, call, knock on doors, donate, etc. Here is their link. PLEASE share it on social media. THANKS!

Correction...LA had 600,000 marchers. Last year was 750,000. Most cities had more marchers this year (the weather was favorable).

(11,122 posts)It used to be that journalists were poor, hardworking slobs who did it for the honor of telling the truth. Now they do it for the ratings, for the perks, for the chance to move up the ladder and maybe get to drink wine with Hoda and Kathie Lee.
It is really hard for someone making several million a year to "get it".
