The 13 kids were starved, and the 2 dogs were well fed. CNN:

http://www.cnn.com/2018/01/19/us/turpin-family-dogs/index.html

Hit the link and you will read the story about the mother and father who starved their 13 children. Also, in the same story is an additional bit of news. The rescuers found two dogs totally healthy and well fed. It is a little twist to the same story, but what is wrong with the mother and father?

I sure don't know?
Does anyone have a clue? .........

"Sick" means it's not their fault. I'm more into "evil".

I hope they wind up in the general population, and are dealt with accordingly.

I have never believed in any kind of torture to anyone, for any crime.

Nevertheless, with these two people, maybe a special half hour a week of a special kind of torture. I don't know what that could be, but it should be with special guards who inflict some kind of special pain. Or, please forgive me for saying this, but maybe some of the prisoners at the prisons these two get sent to, could do the punishment.

Prisoners who have shown great improvement while serving their sentences, but have stories of being terribly abused by their parents or caretakers. These people, those prisoners who have made progress will know how to inflict the most pain to these miserable excuses for parents.

Now I want you to know I have never came up with an idea like this before. But this story is quite special in its own way, and special punishment needs to be carried out. Forgive me. But the evil here is incredible. And you are correct, the children will need special mental health treatment for a long time.

I couldn't do what I described, and that won't happen.

But that was just a thought. That is all.

was 20 years old. How did this get unnoticed for so long?! I am not a fan of home schooling for many reasons, now this is added to my list. As a teacher for over 15 years I have seen what home schooling does to kids. They are behind academically and socially and often can not ever adjust.

The police and court appointed psychologist interviews are going to be
very illuminating, but heart breaking. Very hard sometimes to do this kind of work,
and maintain professional objectivity.

But generally the parents will give their rationalizations for the abuse.
They may be mentally ill or drug involved. Usually blame each other, or the children.
The children are wild, evil, eat too much, break things. Only way to maintain order
is to withhold food or to restrain them. It is all for their own good.
Mother may be afraid of the father.

Or they have religious reasons for the abuse and quote the Bible or their minister.
They may say they are protecting the children from the evil outside world.
And they do this to their children because they love them.

They may break down with some guilt or remorse, may not.
May be angry and belligerent. May say everyone is out to get them.

This of course is a very serious and horrific case. I think everyone, including the mental health community, wants to know what happened to this family, how did the parents commit this horrific abuse for so long and why. We don't know the particulars yet.

There is an incredible lack of human sensitivity to let your children starve and be tortured, and take good care of the dogs. This is not about the dogs, that was the headline of the article.

This is about how parents treated their children, compared to better treatment of their pet dogs.

If the dogs were starving and mistreated too, would you be more upset about them or the kids

If you see something, say something. If you know something (like the mother's family did about the incredibly thin children) call Child Protective Services. If you know that the creepy dad used to watch you take a shower when you lived with him as an adult woman (and you're related to mother) and you see pictures of extremely thin children, call CPS. One visit from a caseworker might have saved these children years of abuse.

Both of the parents have obvious mental health issues that can explain but not excuse the abuse. For example, it's not unusual for parents with borderline personality disorder (the hallmark of which is an intense fear of abandonment) to abuse some or all of their children. I was raised by a father with BPD. Mom convinced him to take a job with lots of travel (for his nerves) so that he wasn't around much when we were young. That was as close as she could get to a divorce in the 50s and 60s. He could be gone for weeks at a time. It was hell on earth when he was home. My siblings and I left home the second we turned 18 and did not look back. My mother eventually left him a few years before she died.
