Senate Dems planning 8:30 ET meeting as rumours fly of a deal to avoid shutdown for now

Just watching MSNBC and CNN, and reading between the lines, seems like Kelly is up on the hill and they are coalescing around a plan to cut the CR in half from a month long extension to 2 weeks instead. Presumably, the senate Dems, again, just my guess, are meeting at 8:30 to vote on whether or not they can accept this deal. That is what MSNBC says and their White House Correspondent, Hallie Jackson, is saying. She also said the tone from the W.H. on what they would accept started to change at 5 p.m. or so.

Meanwhile, CNN's Jim Acosta is being told that the senate will vote on "something else" other than the house CR tonight, after the house CR vote fails.

So, if this coalescing doesn't fall apart, looks like the ultimate showdown will not occur for another few weeks.

Edit #2: Forgot to add that CNN`s political director confirmed that Nancy Pelosi is calling all the dems in for an unexpected meeting to presumably go over the outlines of a deal, the deal outline is my speculation but why else call an unexpected meeting of all house dems? That too is also confirmed.

Edit: The senate dem 8:30 meeting is confirmed and the fact that the W.H. position has changed within the past 2 hours is also confirmed by Hallie Jackson. This resulting in a deal though, that part is my speculation. The rest is confirmed though. Also confirmed is Jim Acosta said the senate will vote on something else tonight once the house bill fails.

Stopping and re-starting the mechanisms of government, even for a short time, is a hideously wasteful and expensive proposition. Can something be worked out in two weeks, or is this just a little brinksmanship before the inevitable tumbling of the jenga tower?

If Democrats agree to the extension, they'd better get some iron-clad guarantees from the Republicans, and a place at the table for ongoing negotiations. Short of that, I'd say let it close down and holler at the top of your lungs about Republican duplicity and ineptitude, because that's where the blame for all of this resides.
