(CNN)The Justice Department filed a notice Friday to re-try Democratic New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez on bribery and corruption charges.
A trial last fall resulted in a hung jury. Menendez pleaded not guilty to all charges.

from a prosecutor's point of view, the success rate for a retrial is dramatically lower than for most new cases. therefore, it's usually considered a rather poor allocation of resources.
