I just read that McConnell can't even get a vote scheduled with 11 hours to go until shutdown. So Schumer can go meet Trump, do the "I tried to get a deal" thing, and then blame McConnell for not dealing.

they come out of the meeting and Schumer says, "Hey, I came all the way up here on my own to try and do a deal with the master dealmaker himself, and he wouldn't do a deal, so what can I do." (shrugs, government shuts down, Trump to blame)

OR

they come out of the meeting and Schumer announces that Trump has given him everything he wants (because knowing Trump, all Schumer will have to do is kiss his ass for ten minutes and Trump will agree to anything), but McConnell either refuses to hold a vote, or can't get a vote scheduled, or can't get enough Republicans to vote for it. (shrugs, government shuts down, McConnell to blame)
