If government gets shut down over DACA

Then I’m backing the Democrats even more, because they’re proving they have a backbone. The Republicans are trying their best to trash DACA today.

DACA is a huge issue and deserves to be extended. It’ a reflection of the heart and humanity of this country and it’s a huge deal on every level of our county’s values. Immigration is the very soul of this country. If you aren’t a Native American you are an immigrant.

We can't back down on DACA. This is our line in the sand. We promised to defend the Dreamers and we can't go back on that promise.

under "normal" rules and have locked Democrats out about all the legislation. Submitting to blackmail would make the democrats look weaker than they are often portrayed to be.

This whole whole mess was and is easily avoided if republicans really care

If Republicans want to get to "yes," they need to govern responsibly. Shutting Democrats out of the process entirely, and making go-nowhere proposals they know will never get a majority vote is no way to try to run the country.

Remember the Affordable Care Act that Republicans like to say was "forced down the country's throat"? The Act was put together over the course of several months, data was gathered, public testimony was taken in several committees, experts were consulted, amendments were solicited from Republicans and voted on (some were even adopted!), and the process went through the regular order. Was the bill perfect? By no means. But the end result was voted on by both houses of Congress, and passed without a single Republican vote. Once it was enacted, the Republicans sent their litigation gremlins out to chip away at the Act, weakening its provisions. Yet, the ACA persists. A testament to its robust crafting as legislation.

By contrast, the Republicans cobble together stop-gaps and band-aids with all the stability of Birnam Wood. Now they're trying to put the hat on Democrats for their own ineptitude. Well, fuck that, and fuck any media outlets that go along with their chicanery.

agree to anything unless it is in writing.

The FY17 budget ended on Sept 30th last year. It's been 3 1/2 months and the GOP has nothing. No more CRs.

They need to do their job and come up with a top/down comprehensive budget working with the Dems.

The tax bill shouldn't have been passed until their was a budget that aligned to it.

Doing shit in a piecemeal manner for a $4 Trillion dollar enterprise (the US government) is unacceptable.

If there is a shutdown, its likely I will be furloughed. Last time they allowed us to take paid leave if you had some. Hopefully it will be the same this time.

A long one would push me into bankruptcy.

Don't fund the government until everyone of those 800,000 are protected. We should also be extending it to the Salvadorians and Haitians that are under threat with the change in their Temporary Protection Orders.

The fact is that bullies like Trump fold faster than a pup tent in a hurricane.

Pin him to the wall and make him give up. A long shut down would probably trigger profit taking and a drop in the Dow of 15-20 points, at a minimum.

They're out in force trying to blame the Democrats and saying they can deal with DACA later.

The Democrats would be committing political suicide if they drop DACA and give in. Millions of people are in DACA, and millions more are for DACA. The Democrats will win this one. I doubt the government will be closed longer than this weekend if even that long.

Republicans are using the military as victims of this shutdown to get sympathy. I doubt the military will go very long without getting funded.

The Dreamers are already starting to be deported. If they vote the 30 day CR with no action on DACA, more will get deported in that 30 days. What is to prevent the Republicans from putting up another CR or bill with no action on DACA 30 days from now? Nothing. It’s a game. They drag it out and once the mass deportations start shrug and claim “oh darn, we tried our best”.

Well, you can look back to the W administration. With all 3 branches of govt, SCOTUS and a big, big slice of the media, they managed to break the world. I guess a case could be made that it was a ploy - "See how bad things are when you leave them to the govt?"

But, at least they were able to get behind legislation and get it passed, however awful it might have been. These idiots can't even manage to agree with themselves.

As an immigration attorney, my heart breaks for all these young people and their families. Their fear of being separated is a trauma they live with every day.

That said, and as you say about Native Americans, if I were to go far enough up everyone's family tree, I would probably find undocumented immigrants as ancestors. Perhaps even tRump's mother was here illegally. She came here for a "visit" after her older sisters established themselves here. She eventually met tRump's dad and the rest is history. Trump's grandfather's history is even more interesting with forged citizenship papers in the mix.

The constant stress of what they and their parents are going through has to be devastating! Their lives are on hold and in such a totally unfair way. They're being used as pawns. Horrible!
