FANTASTIC!!

Shutdown to save the dreamers here we come!

reps vote for a shutdown so it will possibly pass the House but NO WAY the Senate! GOOD! I called my reps yesterday and told them to stay strong. Clean Dream Act is a must...no negotiations. The Republicans shot their bolt on legislation getting to the Senate floor without clearing a cloture vote. If the Senate wants to vote on anything for the rest of the year (is it still only January?), they have to get 60 votes to bring it to the floor. McCain is out, so they're working with a 50-49 split in the body.

The only way the Senate is going to get anything done will be to work with Democrats and come up with legislation that gets at least 10 votes from outside their caucus. Anything likely to garner that many votes will lose at least that many among the Republicans.

McConnell is screwed unless he can find a way to blame the Democrats for his own incompetence. Luckily, in today's media environment, reporters and their bosses seem to have forgotten how to count, so it just might work.

because their own party isn't behind the spending bill 100%. The Tea Party faction isn't going to back it so why should the Dems bail them out.

All they had to do was pass a clean compromise DACA bill, but they refused.

The GOP has majorities in the house and senate and a toddler President waiting to sign anything that crosses his desk. All the blame goes to the GOP.

so it really feels like a very mixed "blessing". I can only hope this forms the pressure needed to prevail with CHIP and DACA (and many more priorities)

Because it will blunt the momentum Trump has built up since the tax cut bill. Our generic congressional ballot lead has narrowed rather dramatically and a triumphant SOTU on January 30, 2018, by a resurgent Trump is the LAST thing we need. This shutdown stops any momentum Trump has been building and is needed to ensure our wave in November.

Not to mention, most importantly, that we cannot let 800,000 Dreamer lives be ruined.

I understand the dems’ reasons are much more worthy but it still seems like this will play badly, even tho it will be because not all 51 GOP senators would vote for it.

They paid no consequences whatsoever in 2014 for their despicable actions in 2013 nor was their house majority ever imperiled much really after the debt ceiling was held hostage in Summer 2011. Why should we pay now, when they never did?

This will get our congressional generic lead back up to where it needs to be, as most voters, while ticked at the Dems for shutting it down yes, will also blame Trump and his KGOP, and do so more than they blame us.

As others have stated, that is the correct narrative dems and us need to use.

The reps couldn't come up with the votes so they couldn't keep the government open.

I fully support the actions of Democrats to refuse to vote for anything less than
Full DACA, full CHIP funding, AND standing up for full raising of the debt ceiling caps to avoid sequestration.

We’ve been talking about it at work- and we hope Dems stand firm.

in the first place.

They (you) caused the issue with CHIP, and now they want to use sick kids as a Human Shield so they can screw over 800,000 Dreamers...about 799K of whom contribute more to this country than the entire children of the "white hayseeds" from Dumbfuckistan, AmeriKKKa do.

If white kids from Rust Belt, PA, OH, WV and KY worked as hard and applied themselves just a fraction of the amount the Dreamers do, this country could really accomplish something.

Oh, I forgot...it's white males in this country that are the "Real" oppressed.

"American government shut down to save Dreamers", is that going to "fire up the democratic base"?

Sure, it will FIRE UP DU, but I have found over the more than 15 years of posting here, that we are not really "representative" of the "average" American. That can be argued, but it is MY observation.

Most people I know basically have no interest in politics. They just detest all politicians equally; regardless of party affiliation. D.U. Is really not representative of the average person out here in the sticks who is focused on surviving on a daily basis and could care less about what the politicians back in D.C. are arguing about. They don't notice until they are affected personally. Sadly

Since the House passed theirs, it always seems like people cave and another stop-gap gets approved so they'll probably come up with some deal at the last minute.
