The New York Times gives its editorial page over to Trump supporters, sparking a debate

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/arts-and-entertainment/wp/2018/01/17/the-new-york-times-gives-its-editorial-page-over-to-trump-supporters-sparking-a-debate/?utm_term=.57216d294e60

The New York Times will do away with its editorial page on Thursday temporarily to run a full-page of letters from supporters of the president, a move that comes amid a tense climate in the country between the media and Trump, who has constantly assailed supposed biases at many publications since well before he was elected.

In a paragraph that accompanied the letters, the New York Times noted that its editorial board has been sharply critical of the president.

“In the spirit of open debate, and in hopes of helping readers who agree with us better understand the views of those who don’t, we wanted to let Mr. Trump’s supporters make their best case for him as the first year of his presidency approaches its close,” it read. The newspaper said that it would follow it up with a feature of letters from Trump voters who had since become disillusioned and others reacting to the move.

“The president of the United States is a racist,” noted a Times editorial with the headline, “Donald Trump Flushes Away America’s Reputation,” last week after Trump referred to African nations as “shitholes.”

The newspaper published the letters from Trump supporters online Wednesday night.

This is just stupid. The people who support the NYT are not Trump supporters and don't want to hear from them and it's not like this hollow gesture is going make deplorables start subscribing in droves, or even at all. Whose idiotic idea was this in the first place? They should be fired!

They are fucking soulless, heartless idiots. There is no getting through to them. There is something wrong with them on a very deep level that can't be changed.

We are never, ever going to change the minds of hardcore Trumpers. We have been inundated.with their views for a year. How about hearing from progressives for a change?

We need to understand how to craft our message to appeal to those on the edge. Not the hard core 34%, but those who might vote for him even though they don't like him, for policy reasons.

Every two weeks for a solid year we've had the "Send a reporter into dark red Trump Country and let them rant freely about Obama being a crypto-communist controlled by the International Jew, the coastal elites, big media, Hillary being the Anti-Christ, liberal intellectuals trying to grab their guns, burn down their churches, build more mosques and force their daughters to get impregnated by Colin Kaepernick, and some dude named Al Kyda" -story, and they all read the same... They've had their quota of days in the sun.

I no longer wish to "understand" them, since I already know how racists think
