After a shocking win in a rural Wisconsin senate race Tuesday, Democrats are feeling increasingly bullish they can win another target deep in Trump territory, flip their first House seat since Trumps 2016 victory and strike fear into the hearts of Republicans across the country.
Their target: a blue-collar southwestern Pennsylvania House seat recently vacated by disgraced former Rep. Tim Murphy (R-PA) in territory national Democrats havent seriously contested this decade.
Strategists in both parties see a surprisingly close race developing in the district ahead of the March 13 special election. After some major investments, Republicans are pulling out the big guns on Thursday: A visit from President Trump himself, who will hold an official event on the districts edges where hes expected to boost the Republican candidate.
Clearly theres a lot of intensity and energy on the Democratic side and theyve outperformed their recent numbers in other special elections. Weve got to take this very, very seriously, Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) told TPM. I do think we are taking this seriously and I think were going to win, but were not going to be asleep at the switch.

NRA Gives $3.6 Million to Walker, Legislators
Just one Democrat benefits from gun lobbys generous donations.
By Wisconsin Democracy Campaign - Oct 5th, 2017 11:10 am
Most of the spending, about $3.5 million, was by the NRA on outside electioneering to help Walker win his 2010 general, 2012 recall and 2014 reelection bids. Walker also received $22,500 in direct campaign contributions from pro-gun interests the most of any legislative or statewide candidate between January 2008 and June 2017.
In addition to Walker, current legislators received about $92,400 (see table below) in outside electioneering support and direct campaign contributions from the NRAs political action committees and corporation, between January 2008 and June 2017. All but $500 went to support GOP legislators.
During much of the same time, Walker and GOP legislators, who took control of state government in January 2011, have approved numerous pro-gun bills led by states concealed carry law.
More recently, last month, a state Senate committee recommended passage of a proposal, Senate Bill 169, which would allow adults to carry concealed weapons in Wisconsin without a permit. ....................

(218 posts)Conor is a terrific young man, an excellent candidate. Tim "the slime ball" Murphy was entrenched in a district designed just for him. (This district streaks out like a mangled octopus into FOUR counties!). Murphy was more Catholic than St. Peter, trying on priests the way Imelda Marcos tried on shoes, new ones every day. Lo and behold, turns out Mr. "LIFE IS SACRED" Murphy wanted one of his girlfriends to abort when she thought she was pregnant.
Conor is reaching out to veterans (he's a former marine), families, union workers, and doing his best to talk to and listen to people. Please-- help us help him. He needs money. He's got lots of support and people are working hard--we want to see him WIN!
