Trump Lawyer Ty Cobb: POTUS 'Very Eager' to Speak With Mueller, but I Hope It's Not a 'Perjury Trap'

by Ken Meyer | 10:22 am, January 18th, 2018

CBS has released a preview of their extensive interview with Ty Cobb, a lawyer for President Donald Trump. And in it, the president’s counsel went on record as saying his client is quite willing to give an interview to special counsel Robert Mueller.

Speaking with CBS White House correspondent Major Garrett on The Takeout‘s upcoming podcast, Cobb said Trump is “very eager” to meet with investigators and “put the matter to rest.” No formal requests have come in from the special counsel yet, though Cobb said there are “active discussions” regarding a Trump interview.

“I would hope that a fair minded office of the special counsel would approach it in a dutiful way consistent with precedent and it wouldn’t be a mere perjury trap.”

Cobb said he expects Mueller’s investigation to conclude in 4-6 weeks — though this wouldn’t be the first time the Trump Administration has predicted an imminent end to the Russian election interference probes. Cobb also acknowledged that the investigations are an anchor on Trump’s presidency, though he insists that the legal developments pertaining to George Papadopoulos, Michael Flynn and Paul Manafort will not cause lasting damage.

Sounds like a perjury trap trap(?). Everyone knows the Trump team has been working this from every angle. Mueller will talk to you if and whenever it pleases him. Now go get your shine box, Wilford.

7. But he lies all the time

and thinks the truth is whatever he is saying at the moment. I think that he will contradict himself under oath in the first 5 minutes, so perjury is inevitable, and he can't threaten to sue Mueller.

6. "perjury trap"

you asshole repukes know all about perjury traps.

Like when you got President Clinton to testify under oath about Monica Lewinsky and then provided Clinton with a twisted definition of "having sex" that excluded everything that you already knew that she and Clinton did... so he would swear "I did not have sex with that woman" when by all common definitions of "having sex" he did. So you could impeach him for committing perjury.

Only with the Donald, all he has to do is open his mouth and it's actual perjury because he can't help himself... he lies constantly.

The definition of sex given by the attorneys did not include what Clinton did. So, how did he actually commit perjury in those circumstances? I never understood that. So if you're in the courtroom you have to know the legal definition of everything?

11. My thoughts exactly upon reading ... and it wasn't 'sex' it was 'sexual relations' ...

Which is indeed legally defined as intercourse (not oral), which is why Clinton specifically said 'I did not have sexual relations with (Lewinsky)', which indeed was NOT perjury (as far as anyone knows).

The whole thing was a f***ing bullshit 'sting' operation.

And Ken Starr was a straight-up Repuke operative and far, far less impartial and professional than Mueller.

The Pukes f***ing HYPOCRISY and LIES know absolutely no bounds, and all who vote for them are immoral pricks.

12. Because it wasn't a courtroom where he was "convicted" of a crime

In fact, he wasn't convicted by the Senate when they held the impeachment "trial"

But in the "court of public opinion", he committed perjury because everyone knows that a blowjob is having sex (despite the definition given to him by Star's prosecutors for the deposition).

When his own staff started saying "he lied to us about having sex with Monica..." that drove home the point to Clinton that he would never win the argument.

The republicans trapped him with that definition they provided him... intentionally.

Had they just said that sex was "any touching of the following areas (insert list) by the other party constitutes sex"... I believe that he would have maybe answered truthfully. But they gave him an out so that he could deny it legally... and then trapped him because they already knew what the two of them did.

Our current President has an affair with a porn star and pays her hush money and nobody says anything (no year-long hearings on the case, no crush of reporters badgering every day).

10. a "perjury trap" is a legitimate legal concept, and a recognized defence.

however, it generally applies, at most, when the only charge is... wait for it... that's right -- perjury.

if it gets to the point where donnie is indicted, he is not going to be indicted solely for perjury.

i don't think it's at all reasonable to think that mueller wants him to testify for the sole purpose of later indicting him for perjury.

i also think it's more than clear that there's a legitimate ongoing investigation, so "perjury trap" wouldn't be applicable.

*imho, not a lawyer.

...according to his own lawyer:

But despite this, he said he considers the investigation to be a drag on the presidency. "It's very difficult for him to do anything other than to fight for his place in history," Cobb said.

and does not have to worry about any stinkin' perjury trap. After the interview, Mueller will shake Trump's hand, thank him, and say that Trump was the most honest and sincere witness in the history of witnesses
