The GOP base is older and whiter than the Democratic base.

People generally don't care about voting until they're much more established in their community. For example a 50 something who has owned a home in the community for 25 years is more likely to vote than a college student who moves apartments every school year.

Haven't you been paying attention to the 30+ off-year & special elections that Dems have won, or the 20+ point swings towards the party in literally every such election since 1/20/17?

That Democrats do come out to vote, in big numbers, but the suppression in red states is so great that a large percentage of those votes are not even counted. Provisional ballots are trashed, not counted. Along with voting machines built and operated by Republican affiliated companies, the red shift that came into being after the "Help America Vote Act" - which, once again, does exactly the opposite of what the Thugs claimed - has created a very tilted playing field in favor of those who cheat.

Put it all together and the Thugs reasoning is - if we can get it close, we can steal it. It's been happening since 2002 - after the Supremes appointed BushCo president. When the Dems take over I hope to God they do something about the whole stinking system.

Considering the losses we made under Obama.

What must be done to correct this?

Voter suppression measures, infiltration, treason -- it took a whole lot to ensure Hillary "lost."

a reliable voter. Having a family and owning a home put me in a position to become one. I even changed parties from what I had chosen as an 18 year old. My father was an American Independent and a card carrying Bircher so registering Republican seemed like a pretty bold protest statement at the time.

I believe I was born a bleeding heart liberal, though, I just wasnt politically aware after a rough childhood and an even tougher time becoming a functioning adult. When I became aware of how little I really knew I stopped voting altogether, for a few years, until I became more educated and driven by the truth about my mother's death.

I've been a registered Democrat for the past 25 years and have been trying to make up for all those absent votes - working the polls, phone banking, canvassing - I even spoke on stage at the March for Women's Lives Rally in DC, 2004 (with my 18 yo daughter and other women from my family) which was terrifying.

2 of my 3 children, the girls, vote regularly and have been active participants. I'm still working on my son (and getting help from his girlfriend too) so I believe he will join us, in time. Living in California makes it all a little easier to be patient.

What's your answer, if so. What have you done to get out the voters?

By the way, people can't be "Democrat." People can be "Democrats." People can be "Democratic." People can't be "Democrat," though.

People is a plural noun. It requires a plural usage.

You say why can't "they." Why do you not say, Why can't we?

we bend over backwards to play nice who legitimately don't believe that people who vote Dem are even human much less Americans.

When GOP controls the government, they get shit done by any means necessary. Fuck norms. They'll do anything they have to to get the goals of their conspiracy loon base accomplished.

Dems almost never play for keeps the same way. We wanna have the moral high ground. So it's hard for people to have faith in us. That is our problem.

IF we win in 2018 the Dem leadership should do everything the GOP did to Pres. Obama. No SCOTUS appointments, no judge appointments, nothing.
