GOP leadership, media, wondering if Trump's CHIP tweet means he doesn't understand Ryan bill

Just heard this speculation on CNN, but I saw it first in a tweet from Axios's Jonathan Swan:

Another (perhaps wishful thinking) theory circulating among GOP leadership: that Trump is confused, worded his tweet wrong, and is actually endorsing six-year CHIP extension.

This is the tweet:

CHIP should be part of a long term solution, not a 30 Day, or short term, extension!

I wondered, too, as soon as I read that, if Trump didn't realize the bill extends CHIP funding for 6 years and thought it extended the funding for just a month.

Speculation on CNN was that Ryan will be on the phone explaining things to the Moron-in-Chief and we'll see a reversal as we did just before the FISA vote.

Editing to add this tweet from NYT reporter Thomas Kaplan:

Trump administration statement yesterday: "The administration supports the bill’s multiyear funding extension of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)."

What to make of the president’s tweet? Jonathan Swan at Axios tweeted that his Republican sources were trying to “decipher” this tweet. But some have already written it off as inconsequential, likely the result of a news segment the president may have seen.

“Guaranteed the President is misunderstanding what’s going on based on something he saw on TV and we’ll see a corrective tweet in the next hour or so,” one Republican congressional aide close to the CHIP negotiations told Vox.
