Trump Administration Bars Haiti From Guest-Worker Visa Program
Andrew Innerarity/Reuters
The Department of Homeland Security has removed Haiti from a list of countries eligible for a program granting U.S. visas to low-skilled workers, Reuters reports. The Trump administration announced the news less than a week after President Trump questioned why the U.S. would want immigrants from Haiti in a meeting where he reportedly called Haiti and African nations shithole countries. The Department of Homeland Security on Wednesday said it was barring Haitians from receiving H2-A and H2-B visas due to high levels of fraud and abuse by Haitian visa holders and a high rate of overstaying visa terms. The H2-A and H2-B visas, primarily for seasonal workers in agriculture and other industries, have served as one of very few legal avenues for Haitians to come to the U.S. since the program started in 2012 to help the country recover from a devastating earthquake.

(22,651 posts)Florida had the highest unemployment during the Bush created depression because they stopped hiring "local seasonal workers" long ago.
Haiti has always been about on Island manufacturing workers, very low paid for many decades. Used to be garment workers about 50? yrs ago. Other global countries now make USAs super-profit cloths.
Now I'm not sure what Corporations use the very low wage workers. I think fluids, those bags of saline hospitals bill Americans $300-$400 each is one item. I'm fairly sure those bags of fluids are one item made for $1 on Haiti and sold in USA for fabulous profits.
Trump Might Not See the Need for Haitians, but Mar-A-Lago Does
By Chris Morris January 12, 2018
Donald Trumps offensive comments about Haiti and other countries amid talks about extending temporary protected status for immigrants could come back to haunt him in more ways than one.
Beyond any political ramifications, it could blow back on his favorite resort property. Mar-A-Lago, sometimes dubbed the Winter White House, reportedly employs more Haitians than nearly any other nationality. (Romania is the only other one that comes close, according to The New Yorker.)
The club applied for and received 70 H-2B visas for its recent 2017-2018 season. The H-2B is a visa that is targeted to low-cost, low-skilled workers and is not under any executive review. The H1-B, which has been in the news, provides visas for technical employees.
H2-Bs, in other words, provide temporary work visas for people to fill seasonal jobs that Americans dont want. So when Trump asked, Why do we need more Haitians? Thursday, his resort was one of the answers to that question.
