(4,226 posts)The school should not be involved in politics...this is so divisive. Last year they had a Hillbilly night at a basketball game and chanted Build the Wall at black players on the other team.

*****I honestly read it as the House stands/exists because of those things (not anything about the people living inside it)

(11,949 posts)But if we become the party IN FAVOR of sitting for the two, what are our electoral chances?
I support those who kneel. I stand and alway will.

(284 posts)of sitting for the Pledge or the National Anthem. What I did see was that a school district, which is to be non-partisan, allowed a sponsor of a club, under the guise of raising funds, to interject and display his or her political beliefs throughout the community.

(11,949 posts)But in many of the places I have lived, huge majorities of both political parties would find the idea that standing for the anthem is in anyway political is just crazy. It is just what people do.
I do not agree with that assessment. But it is an issue that can do nothing but hurt us.
These are areas of the country it is looking like we may complete in for the first time in a generation. This issue would not be worth falling on our sword.

(4,835 posts)This is maligning the kids who don't stand for religious reasons - and pushes this action closer to state endorsed religion.

(82,849 posts)It's a fragile kind of patriotism that has to be so defensive. I wonder if they take the pledge seriously, especially that notion of "liberty and justice for all"?

(63,216 posts)The person who posts this sign is making a personal declaration, presumably on their own property.
If they want to stand, then good for them. If they don't want to stand, then good for them.
As long as they aren't dictating policy for others, then this is clearly covered by your screen-name.

(284 posts)In this sense, the school district is endorsing a political position that would deny the freedom of speech of those who protest and the freedom of religion for those who don't stand because of their beliefs. If someone wants to announce to the world what is on the sign so be it, but public school districts should not be taking partisan political positions.

(63,216 posts)I thought that "The Patriot Club" was simply some kind of self-congratulating clique within the district, rather than a formal part of the school system.
In that case, the school certainly shouldn't allow it.
