Sort of like the camel argument: Better to have him under your tent pissing out, than on the outside pissing in.
What's to prevent Bannon from taking "the 5th"?
This is a big move by Mueller. I think it must have somewhat surprised the White House with the speed with which Mueller made his move.
Bannon is a big fish. The White House is very anxious.
Could Trump re-hire Bannon?
I would not be surprised.

(111,104 posts)That is the way that both Trump and Bannon think, like reality tv personalities.

Trying to figure out what they will do is a losing exercise.

(46,166 posts)Regardless of what happens I hope that Mueller socks Bannon's ass in jail if Bannon refuses to talk to Mueller. Let him sit in the cooler and mull over just how much he wants to sacrifice in order to burn our house down.

(3,335 posts)Depending on how much he knows, and/or how much involvement Bannon has in any illegal stuff, it might not be such a big deal. Let's see he's currently unemployed. He's been fired from the WH, Breitbart, and the Mercer's; so what has he got to lose? Particularly if he hasn't done anything wrong.

(52,253 posts)That Bannon has already done something unforgivable in donnies eyes. Surely to do with the investigation, like wearing a wire.
In any event, the promise of a pardon is all the leverage he needs, I think.

(3,515 posts)what is going on. Mueller, again, is giving Bannon an opportunity to cooperate and get a lighter sentence or even something better.
Bannon either takes the opportunity he is offered or he doesn't. It's his choice.
I have no inside information, but I suspect that Mueller has the evidence he needs in his case (whatever the case is) with or without Bannon. He just wants to interview Bannon to affirm that his evidence can be neatly presented in court.
Mueller has documents. He is looking at information that we have no idea exists. He has witnesses if various kinds most likely.
If anyone in the White House or the Trump family, any witness that has been called is withholding information, they will probably regret it later.
That is my guess. I don't think that Mueller and his team would waste their precious time at Muellers' age if they didn't have evidence and a fairly strong case.
You never know what will happen in court, but Bannon would probably be smart to cooperate as much as he can. He is a rebel, but the stakes are high especially for a man at his age. He is 64. Who knows how his health is, but . . . . the years start going very quickly at his age.
