Dem senator: Tom Cotton 'wants a shutdown in the worst way'

Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) on Wednesday faulted Republicans, and Sen. Tom Cotton (Ark.) in particular, for bringing the government to the brink of a shutdown.

The Washington Post reported Monday that a bipartisan pair of senators had been under the impression they'd reached a deal on immigration reform that President Trump could support — until they attended a now-infamous White House meeting that also included Cotton and Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.), both immigration hard-liners.

It was in that meeting that Trump reportedly made reference to immigrants from "shithole countries."

Schatz noted the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and the looming shutdown as issues Republicans have not been willing to work to solve.
