Depraved is too good a word for these two monsters
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/jan/17/parents-tortured-13-children-no-oversight-california-home-school
<snip>
The home in California where two parents allegedly tortured their 13 children had doubled as a private school for the siblings but the premises received no government oversight and was never inspected by education officials.
David Turpin had been home-schooling his children at the house in Perris, east of Los Angeles, which he called the Sandcastle Day School. In the 2016-17 school year, it had an enrollment of six, with one student each in the fifth, sixth, eighth, ninth, 10th and 12th grades.
Police remain baffled by the parents motives. I wish I could come to you today with information that would explain why this happened, said Captain Greg Fellows of the Riverside county sheriffs department on Tuesday.
But we do need to acknowledge the courage of the young girl who escaped from that residence to bring attention so they could get the help they so needed.
Fellows said conditions at the house were horrific. Even so, he said, the mother appeared perplexed about why the police were there.
He added: If you can imagine being 17 years old and appearing to be a 10-year-old, being chained to a bed, being malnourished, and injuries associated with that. I would call that torture.

The indifference of neighbors and community hardly helps.
Notice how they had money to go to Vegas to renew their vows while starving their children. Sick cannot describe these monsters.

(46,345 posts)Here's the most detailed report I could find - seven of the children were adults from 18 - 29. I hate these people.
https://styleveryday.com/2018/01/17/california-parents-arrested-after-13-shackled-children-found-in-home/
Deputies located what they believed to be 12 children inside the house, but were shocked to discover that 7 of them were actually adults, ranging in age from 18 to 29.
Like the 17-year-old who appeared to be 10, apparently chronic deprivation had stunted their physical development.
The victims appeared to be malnourished and very dirty. Perris Station Detectives were dispatched to the residence for further investigation.

(12,858 posts)See comments and posts at thewartburgwatch.com. They are running posts about the big scandal of the youth pastor now at a church in Memphis who molested a 17yo girl 20 yrs ago. She recently filed charges because she was emboldened by the many women now speaking out about their experiences. The story has gone national (CNN,etc). People are horrified that his present church gave him a standing ovation last Sunday after the preacher gave a (questionable) account of the incident and claimed that it had been properly handled by the TX church the 2 attended at the time.
There is a damning discussion of the church and sermon at bilgrimage. Also post about whole mess by Libbie Ann, I think.

(81,578 posts)David Turpins parents, James and Betty Turpin of West Virginia, told ABC News that they were surprised and shocked by the allegations. They said their son and daughter-in-law, whom they have not seen for several years, are religious and kept having children because God called on them.
The grandparents said that the children are home-schooled, made to memorize long scriptures in the Bible. Some of the children, the grandparents told ABC News, have tried to memorize the entire book.
