Or maybe … he already is! Trump’s height has long been thought to be 6’2?. That’s also the height listed on his 1964 Selective Service registration card, which was signed by Trump under the sentence “I affirm that I have verified the foregoing answers and that they are true.” (His weight was listed at 180 pounds.) More recently, back in the Republican primary debate days, Trump stood next to Jeb Bush, who also professes to be 6’3?, and Trump was noticeably shorter (this includes the times when Bush was not weirdly stepping on his tiptoes). Madame Tussauds, which once measured the man for a wax sculpture, has become the source for certain Trump measurements, such as his smaller-than-average hands. But its Trump figure is no longer on display, and a spokesperson told Vocativ it “does not share information about the celebrities we’ve worked with,” including, apparently, their heights. So why would Trump start saying he’s 6’3? now?

...of muscle weighs more than the same fixed volume of fat. The same shorthand is used very frequently by engineers and material scientists, e.g. steel weighs more than aluminum, which weighs more than wood. Of course it's more complicated because aluminum is stronger than wood, so you need less of it, and steel is stronger than aluminum, so you need even less of it. But the basic "weighs more than" shorthand is something no professional would disagree with.

More or less mass (weight see below) per unit volume is more or less dense.

You can quibble about the distinction between mass and weight (they are distinct) but for practical purposes in dealing with comparative measurements of human beings we have to realize three things: 1) the measurements are not so accurate that variations in gravity between Maryland and Texas would be noticeable, 2) health measurements are often weight measurements, not mass (scale measuring force on springs or similar), 3) In a gravitational field that is very close to uniform or is "uniform enough for practical purposes" then weight is effectively a proxy for mass.

Also, the logical implication of what you so carefully wrote is that you have never spoken to anyone outside of the scientific field in any conversation that involved the words "weigh" or "weight".

As a former scientist, I have NEVER heard anyone say x weighs more than y in this manner. It is typically something said by those NOT in scientific fields.

When you combine fact 1 (you have never heard) with fact 2 (typically said by those not in science), it means that you have not heard those not in science talk about weight.

Get out much?

That is what I was responding to, and I stand by that.

It is still incorrect, and those who work in science do not use those terms in such manner.

I was about to post the same thing when I saw your post. It's kind of a Occam's Razor. I've taught Health & Phys. Ed. for years, and was in the health spa industry before that. I dealt with this every freaking day. It comes down to, "What weighs more, a pound of feathers or a pound of lead?" Once they got their minds around the fact they both weigh a pound, then they could focus on the difference in size, and suddenly the lights went on.

Ever since I first learned about mass, this has been a pet peeve of mine! LOL!

It is VERY helpful in terms of weight loss. When I work on my weight, I always use measurements to track losing "size" even when the scale doesn't move.

...I actually install, maintain, calibrate, and develop automated systems around weighing equipment. I work with the people who work with those scales in nearly every industry, from operators who can barely read to the engineers and managers who employ them. In my experience, both of your observations here are wrong. I have often heard the usage "x weighs more than y" as a shorthand for bulk material "x is denser than bulk material y." This has often come up, for example, in specifying the dimensions of hoppers for bulkweighers which must accommodate the right amount of the bulk material they are weighing. And I have never heard an engineer refer to mass in a practical context, because schemes to directly measure mass are complicated and hard to implement, while scales which measure weight are cheap and simple and acceleration due to gravity makes the relationship between the two pretty reliable.

I weigh more than I ought to or want to, at 240...but I do a big cardio circuit around our "neighbourhood" (in the larger sense) 4 days a week, and a smaller one on the other 3. I also do about 3 hours a week on the rowing machine. As soon as I get my pensions sorted out, I'm going to rejoin the aquatic center. I did several years of lifeguard training, and, even though that was decades ago, laps are second nature to me.

The point of all that being...I am in *pretty good* shape, for my age (65) and size, and there is NO WAY ON EARTH that he weighs less than I do, even if it's only a pound. I'd estimate him at about 285.

Tue Jan 16, 2018, 09:15 PM
Jan 2018

Unless they measured him, they probably asked him his height. He could have been 6'3" at one time in his life,
but he may no longer be that tall.

I was 5'4" until I hit my 50's and all of a sudden I was less than that. Now at 66, I'm officially 5'3".

Interesting info from this article:

The human body is made up of fat, lean tissue (muscles and organs), bones, and water. After age 30, people tend to lose lean tissue. Your muscles, liver, kidney, and other organs may lose some of their cells. This process of muscle loss is called atrophy. Bones may lose some of their minerals and become less dense (a condition called osteopenia in the early stages and osteoporosis in the later stages). Tissue loss reduces the amount of water in your body.

The amount of body fat goes up steadily after age 30. Older people may have almost one third more fat compared to when they were younger. Fat tissue builds up toward the center of the body, including around the internal organs. However, the layer of fat under the skin gets smaller.

The tendency to become shorter occurs among all races and both sexes. Height loss is related to aging changes in the bones, muscles, and joints. People typically lose almost one-half inch (about 1 centimeter) every 10 years after age 40. Height loss is even more rapid after age 70. You may lose a total of 1 to 3 inches (2.5 to 7.5 centimeters) in height as you age. You can help prevent height loss by following a healthy diet, staying physically active, and preventing and treating bone loss.

Changes in total body weight vary for men and woman. Men often gain weight until about age 55, and then begin to lose weight later in life. This may be related to a drop in the male sex hormone testosterone. Women usually gain weight until age 65, and then begin to lose weight. Weight loss later in life occurs partly because fat replaces lean muscle tissue, and fat weighs less than muscle. Diet and exercise habits can play a large role in a person's weight changes over their lifetime.

people. He does not tower over them. Per photos, Melania in heels is his height or very close to it. While she is tall, she would have to be over 6 feet tall in order for her to reach his height while wearing even really high (3" ) heels--she'd have to be even taller than 6' given that he is wearing shoes which probably add another inch or more (and I wouldn't put it past him to wear lifts in his shoes to keep the myth alive). Very few women are that tall. I think he is at most 6'1" and is padding his stated height so that his weight doesn't make him look as fat.
