Man deported to Mexico after thirty years here

I've only seen a little bit on this story so far, and I think it's beyond reprehensible and way beyond bullshit, but I do have to wonder why, in thirty years, he didn't do anything about "becoming legal."

Is there some law that doesn't let illegals become legal?????

I'm guessing there will be more on the story, so I'll watch out for it.

1. His particular case is especially sad.

He missed some "cut off date" for his birth year by a year or so. Also, he didn't do paperwork correctly or on time I think I heard on the news. That is why this is so fucked up...too many ridiculous rules and details that make no sense to the average person. Call your rep and follow the script that Indivisible just put out today. There are phone numbers, maps for reps, scripts to use, etc.

2. if you are present in the country illegally

the only way to obtain a legal status is through marriage to a US citizen and pass the rigorous interview process (fraud screening). It is absolutely irrelevant how long one stays in the country as far as lega status determination. It is not a felony but one would be barred from eneteing the US for 10 years.

I really beleive that most americans lack basic education abot how US immigration system works and how it compares to other countries, e.g. Canada, Australia, etc.

and there are actually four ways, including "cancellation of removal," but it's not easy.
