Why Some Republicans Insist Trump Never Said Shithole

Behind the discrepancy: A senior GOP source familiar with the matter told CNN that instead of hearing the President say "shithole," some Republicans heard Trump say "shithouse."

Two Trump allies came out publicly on Sunday to dispute that Trump decried immigrants coming from "shithole countries" and sought to cast doubt on Durbin's public account of the meeting.

Georgia GOP Sen. David Perdue said Sunday that there had been a "gross misinterpretation" of Trump's remarks in a private meeting, where sources told CNN Trump made the demeaning and dismissive comment about immigrants from Haiti and Africa and added that the US should get more people from countries like Norway, a predominantly white and wealthy nation.

"I'm telling you he did not use that word, George, and I'm telling you it's a gross misrepresentation," Perdue told moderator George Stephanopoulos on ABC's "This Week."

Perdue and Arkansas GOP Sen. Tom Cotton said in a Friday statement that they did not recall the "shithole" comment, and Cotton on Sunday also accused Durbin of misrepresenting Trump's comments.

1. So the controversy is recast as being whether or not he used a specific word or phrase.

What if Trump had said, "I prefer immigrants from Norway to those from Haiti or Sudan"? No nasty words to get in a huff about, but the same disgusting racist sentiment.

Making this about whether he said "shithole" or "shithouse" or "nuthouse" or "bunghole" or what-the-fuck-ever is a way to distract from the truly ugly thing -- the racist rot at the core of Donald Trump and his administration.

They can lie with a straight face that he didn't say shithole by pretending in their mind he said shithouse, then they can still scuttle the DACA deal.

They're gonna pay in 2018.

8. I'm trying to figure out how it could even make sense in context.

Unless Cotton knows more about shithouses than I do, given I have lived barely on the grid with an outhouse and a greywater system, why Trump would refer to an outhouse when referring to a country is a mystery to me.

Yes, they both are nouns that can refer to a place where people poop, but adding walls neither makes it better or making sense.

He fucking said it. They know it. And I already wrote Cotton quoting John 8 about being of the devil when you lie.
