A question about journalism

I know we have some journalists and some journalism adjacent posters and have wondered about the following for a long time. Why don't journalists burn sources who lie to them or at least refuse to use those sources again? Numerous times we have seen reports based on anonymous sources which have turned out to be lies. I don't understand why journalists don't say Mr. Jones is who told us this lie we won't be accepting tips from Mr. Jones ever again.

and I wouldn't use a source again if they intentionally lied to me. Do you think many journalists do?

I think permitting people to anonymously lie, cultivates lying.
