Can we now say it?

Can we make the broadbrush conclusion that Trump's base is racist? It's a thirty-something core that will always stand by his side. And there are reports that apologists for Trump say the comment is good for his base.

So they are together in racism. Thirty percent of the American voting public. And, unfortunately, you know that number goes up in their micro-segments, wherever they hole up in their red communities.

I think 10% of the country either don't follow anything political and/or will support whomever is in office.

But even if 20%, it is still a formidable number.

4. If you live in a red community, you can see how thirty percent is probably a low number.

What I will give you is that there are hardcore racists mixed in with "decent" white society who just wants to get along. They may spend their lives in work environments where diversity is managed through federal regulation, which means that they never have to delve too deeply into the worlds of their minority co-workers. They never know about the obstacles and anxieties that minorities go through every day as they make their way through the American landscape of work and community.

In contrast, these "decent" white people leave for their suburban homes each night where they have learned to mentally sanitize the crude things they might hear from their white neighbors.

For example, until there is a preponderance of public reaction against Trump's comment, they will probably conclude that Trump is not racist, but what he said was an ignorant, low class thing to say.

See? Not racism, but classism.

In the big picture, until these "decent" people open their eyes, it's all the same to a minority.

7. The "decent" white society you describe reminds me of the "good" cops I keep hearing about.

Good cops cover for bad cops, making them bad cops too.

When decent white society covers for bigoted white society, you're right, it's all the same to a minority.

6. "Not every Trump supporter is racist. But every racist is a Trump supporter"

-forgot where that quote originated, finding it hold pretty true. There are still plenty of idiots in the country who love him and are not actively racist, just your average "I think it's great he is makin' the libruls angry hurr hurr" type. (Ok, maybe they are racists after all, now that I think about it. I guess what I mean is most supporters of Trump aren't too big on self-analyzing or thinking in general LOL)
