fell further into dementia he started to say some pretty nasty things, about our family, his sons (me and my brothers), women and people of color. All of us agreed, my brothers and I and close friends, that the onset of dementia removed the 'social filter' he had been using for most of his life in order to say and do the right thing. Dementia allowed him to express opinions/feelings without that filter. Yes, this was a terrible thing to see in my dad. We were lucky to be able to afford to have the support of assisted living and then a nursing home.

But, this is Trump now.

We had a family friend whose personality became violent and completely opposite his pleasant normal personality. His family had to stop seeing him in order to keep the memories of the outstanding man that he used to be.

Trump has always been a shit. Right before the election he wanted to re arrest the innocent "Central Park 5".

He is harking back to the comfy good old days with his racist Dad by reflex. It also could just be a consequence of extreme stress and feeling cornered -- but dementia, whether onset or established is worthy of consideration.

He said the most hateful things to his family. It still hurts, even though on an intellectual level I know it wasn't truly my father that was spewing such terrible words, it's hard to push down the emotions.

I see similar symptoms in Trump's racist remarks, the sexual innuendos, the petty name calling and the constant need for confirmation of his perceived greatness. He has a long history of this behavior, but in the past he at least understood he had to hide his true nature and that's no longer the case. Ne thinks he is so powerful now that he can let fly and reveal his hidden character without any risk to himself.
