Topic today: We continue to distract ourselves at our own peril - Stay woke

There are a lot of distractions out there. And both parties love it for two distinct reasons. One of them is right. The other is blowing it.

The Republicans passed a tax cut scam that will ultimately decimate the middle-class for years to come if it isn't eradicated after the 2018 election. While the tax cut scam bill was unpopular, few Americans do not realize that for many the pain will not hit them until they have no recourse. As such, Republicans do not want to talk about their tax cut scam at all.

The Democrats are playing perfectly into the hands of the Republicans. Like I have said many times, the American people can walk and chew gum at the same time. Progressives and Democrats need not concentrate most of their firepower on Trump. After all, he is not running. And he has proven that America, at least the important electoral college part, judges him on different metrics.

It is time to engage Americans and their representative politicians, district by district. And I mean both federal districts and state districts. Trump must not distract us.

It seems fairly clear the author was just suggesting that we make sure we campaign heavily on what the GOP as a whole have been upto, and not just rely on attacking Trump in the 2018 campaign. It doesn't seem like particularly controversial advice.

Yes, we'll get a great boost off it, but he's already publicizing his own fuckups for us. We need to focus our energies on the things that aren't being widely discussed, and the tax bill is certainly one of those.

That is clear. A lot of the conversation is clearly about Trump. Some, but less, about the taxscam. That is what happens outside of campaigns as legislation gets further and further behind. As it should be. It has an impact in every district in the country.

Again, it's nothing but a strawman argument.

It's a reasonable warning and I have no idea why you're acting like the op is some slur on the party.

The op is a slur on the party and not the first time.

You started by trying to correct me on a point I was obviously correct on. You then move to the next, which was also inaccurate on your part. You use present tense and then claim it's about the future.

A pre-warning would be when the op told us Trump was going to deliver single payer.

If you just want to attack Trump, go ahead. We're all united in disgust and contempt for the moron. But it's not the right tactic to use in the campaign, and the op has every right to make that point.

5. The tax scam is an issue that affects all Americans.

Trump's antics do indeed distract voters, perhaps that is why he is there, the carnival-barker-in-chief. If Democrat's can focus on rich vs. poor it will cut across the lines of race and gender politics. An identity issue of the all, if you will. Unfortunately, wealthy individuals, corporations and banks fund both sides and have little interest in tax policies that will lower their profit margin.
