i've been trying like hell to figure out Bannon's endgame.

1). Lands in White House, "President Bannon"

2). Squeezed out of White House

3). Back at Breitbart

4). Calls Don Jr. traitorous

5). Cut off by Mercers

6). Apologizes to Trump, says Don Jr. makes Baby Jesus look like a poseur

7). "Resigns" at Breitbart

8). Lawyers up and is rumored to be "cooperating" with Mueller investigation

Did I miss anything?

And that in the case of JR, Manafort, Jared that they should have called the FBI and reported the overtures

So it would not surprise me at all if he is cooperating w Mueller.

As to the rest of it, he pretty much thought he was smarter than he is.

P.S. it would not totally surprise if Mercers get swept up in the investigation

(triple quotes and a BIG grain of salt on that)

Yeah, I know he served in the navy and probably has at least a modicum of patriotism in him as a result, but still, it is hard to think he might be one of the few who would do anything remotely "honorable" unless his own butt was on the line--which does not currently seem like the case.

It's at least possible. He sounds in that like a guy who might well be quite patriotic while simultaneously having some horrible and disturbing beliefs. Add in the navy background and his strong nationalism and any conspiracy with Russia would be a definite evil in his book.

The chapter that includes coverage of Don Jr and the meeting at Trump Tower with the Russians in June of '16 is devastating. If Bannon is the source for much of that episode and its back stories included in the chapter - then your question about Bannon is well founded.

Since his "enemies" were the family members I can't imagine how he felt he would have an advantage with sharing his observations and speculations with Wolff. The book even tells the story of how he called Ivanka a "fucking liar" in front of the president. Maybe it's because the president didn't take Ivanka's side right then and there. Bannon felt his oats and bragged.

I can only suppose that Bannon believed he could succeed with burning down the government starting with his shock and awe tactics from the first weeks of the administration. I see Bannon as an anarchist who believed that he put a malleable no-nothing Trump into the presidency with Bannon himself as the puppeteer.

going to join together to form a conservative media empire that appealed to a younger audience than Fox.

This frightens me, because Breitbart does appeal to younger people, but then again that geriatric quartet might not be down with how the conservative kids are thinking these days.

So when he died the funding dried up. And now with Bannon on the outs with the Mercers things have to look bleak for that endeavor.

Who could step in to fill the gap? Bill O and Hannity are wealthy but I don't hear anything about them picking up the pieces. I don't follow right wing sites for chatter. So,
