Sen. Bernie Sanders, Rev. William Barber host conversation on race at Duke Chap
DURHAM, N.C. Duke University Chapel will host a public conversation with United States Sen. Bernie Sanders and the Rev. William J. Barber II on Friday, Jan. 19 at 8 p.m.
The discussion, The Enduring Challenge of a Moral Economy: 50 Years After Dr. King Challenged Racism, Poverty, and Militarism, will be moderated by Duke Chapel Dean Luke A. Powery.
The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required for entry. The Duke University Box Office will make tickets available to students beginning Jan. 11 and to the general public Jan. 12.
In joining with others to begin organizing the Poor Peoples Campaign 50 years ago, Dr. King was working out of a Christian conviction that racial equity, economic justice and peace among nations were interrelated issues -- and all matters of faith, Powery said in a news release.

Especially since some Moral Mondays threads did get some major traction after Drumpf was elected.

(54,384 posts)7. Barber absolutely owns the room when he speaks.
He was at an event in September, 2015, celebrating 150 years of "The Nation," to which I had the honor of being invited. I asked him if he would be willing to speak at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. He said he hadn't been approached, but would be honored to speak there. I got on to my contact at the DNC and they were receptive to the idea. I heard nothing back from the DNC after that, but sure enough, there he was in Philadelphia--spellbinding the place as usual.
