"JUNGLE PRIMARY" A GOP Scheme. But They Want A Twist.

Why California went for the "jungle primary" is beyond me. All the "jungle primary" is is a GOP scheme most likely supported by the Kochs, the Mercers, the Coors et al. The GOP actually wants these kinds of primaries with a twist. There would be NO party ID's on the primary ballots. And the primaries would be "nonpartisan". Wink wink.

What happens is that the GOP believes it can rig the primaries in such a way that Democrats can be blocked from the ballot with ONLY two GOPPERS running for the final office. It would be like a lot of city elections and county elections that are called "nonpartisan" elections. No identifiable party affiliations.

We have such a system in our city. So even though you know as an activist who is who, most voters most likely have no idea what the agenda is. All I have seen are generic word salad from candidates that reveals little about their positions.

"Jungle primaries" favor the GOP because you can run a whole bunch of candidates and lock out the other party. Think about how it would work is you have 6 or 7 GOPPERS and 2 Democrats. The GOPPERS will have more financial support and exposure because of that support.

Might balance out how this system has lead to far more elections with only democrats left. Tiggeroshii Jan 2018 #2

Historically, an anglo sounding generic name will get more support than an ethnic or foreign sounding name.

This would tend to favor the old white guys that the GOP puts up more often than the Dems.

Of course, that trend might be changing with the changing demographics.
