(13,424 posts)is another issue altogether. There may be legal ramifications for that and the public may not be as forgiving. I hope the woman and her husband pursue charges and a hefty civil settlement that bankrupts him.

(65,391 posts)He was a governor, but he just disappeared and was completely incommunicado as he hung out with his Brazilian girlfriend, yet he was ultimately elected to the Senate. Even being a pedophile was barely disqualifying for Roy Moore, because IOKIYAR. He still got 46% of the votes, because Republican.

(10,023 posts)Oops. But chances are Evangelical preachers might assume the same as me...hahaha. They are a very forgiving group as long as one panders to them (does not seem to matter to them if you walk the walk).

(13,390 posts)Speaking of forgiveness. In 2015, Tom Schwiech committed suicide. He was laying groundwork to run for Governor. He also was trying to get word out about an anti-Semitic whisper campaign that his primary opponents were using.
True or not, the GOP was stained by the incident. Along comes Greitens possibly to recover their image. He is a truly disgusting individual.
I think now that Evangelicans might have been easier to reach in MO than in other locations. Some Christian Identity groups have embraced Jewish white people as part of a shared genetic lineage. From what I have learned in interactions with evangelical family members, I think that ideology has crept into some mainstream baptist groups. So, it's possible that some may see him as one of their own.
Part of it has to do with allyship in taking sides against Muslims, too.

(1,350 posts)Unfortunately he'll be fine. He's got the magic "R" after his name.

(1,035 posts)Enough voters will ignore his first divorce and that he cheated on his second wife because he has an R after his name. Although as an aside, I can say from experience that it is a not a good sign if one of the spouses is out cheating a mere four years into the relationship. I suspect there may be others.
The revenge porn is big. Threatening to release a photo where the subject is blindfolded, bound and semi-undressed is not going over well with enough voters to quash his presidential ambitions.

(13,776 posts)But not the revenge porn yet, although a lot of Republican voters seemed okay with pedophilia, so this may be a test case.
