Pro-life groups held a behind-closed-doors meeting with VP Mike Pence shortly before the bipartisan compromise deal to patch up Obamacare went down in flames.

A bipartisan effort to stabilize the U.S. health-insurance markets collapsed last month after anti-abortion groups appealed directly to Vice President Mike Pence at the 11th hour, The Daily Beast has learned.
Amid opposition from conservatives in the House of Representatives, a group of pro-life activists met with Pence to lobby the Trump administration against supporting a health-insurance market-stabilization bill on the grounds that it does not contain sufficient language on abortion restrictions, according to sources with direct knowledge of the meeting. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was also in attendance at the Dec. 19 meeting, three of the sources said.
The next day, key lawmakers involved in crafting the legislation announced they were punting on the issue until 2018.
A spokeswoman for the vice president confirmed the meeting to The Daily Beast. A spokesman for McConnell did not respond to requests for comment.
Efforts to pressure Pence, a hardline social conservative and a former lawmaker, are thrusting abortion back onto the national stage in a debate over the future of health care in America, as Republicans deliberate behind closed doors on whether to try to scrap Obamacare again in 2018.

(51,632 posts)repeal the ACA this year. I think the Moron does too. I hope the Dems run on this issue, the Tax Scam, his promised tax returns, jobs disappearing, stagnant wages, and Climate Change, and infrastructure.
I think we should leave abortion and guns out of it (too divisive).
We should wait and see what happens with the Russian interference investigation before we use it as part of the campaign. Same with impeachment and his mental state. We need to know how many Americans would vote for impeachment (right now it is about 50/50% for and against impeachment) when we get closer to the elections.
I don't know if we should mention how many times he played golf on the Tax Payers' dime or his sexual harassment allegations and #ME TOO.

(22,976 posts)Precisely! And the right wing LOVES birth control after-the-fact: endless wars, slashing ACA befits, the continuing proliferation and fetishization of firearms.
They are NOT pro-life; if they were, theyd feed and clothe the homeless, provide aid to the terminally ill, and do something about climate change. For starters.

(81,510 posts)Hes a sneaky little shit. Likes to pull these tricks in secret. Behind closed doors. That was his devious behavior in Indiana, too, with that my-religion-trumps-your-rights bill that he signed behind closed doors wit only religious folks clustered around him in a nice sneaky little group shot.
If these folks REALLY were pro-life, they wouldnt be so hellbent on destroying life after its born. Whether its a new baby or a species or maybe even an entire ecosystem.
But, hey, shoot the moon, why not? Besides, its little more than the next marketplace just ripe for exploitation.

(10,176 posts)"Pro-life." I don't allow anyone to say that label in conversations with me, ever, without a challenge. The right wing "Christian" movement is an arm of the KKK.

Have never understood this GOP policy of protect fetus and allow birth but once the child is born, they wash their hands of it.
