Mister Phil, Dr. Oz, her Diet Crap, Rachel Ray on and on.......made $$ ON people's misfortunes. I see nothing extra ordinary about that.

(6,843 posts)She makes no pretenses. On the other hand, how many chefs brought us "fusion" food and "small portion" cuisine.

(17,240 posts)Oprah has NOT made $$$ on misfortune
She hasn't even come out and announced. There is no need to debbie downer the situation.
Oprah has done more positive things in our lives than almost any other host of television, actress in films, writer, director ... and even owning her own station.

(3,145 posts)He peddles pop psychology, 30 minute cures and other fad quackery (his "diet" books, etc.). That seems to be making money off misery.
I have more respect for Jerry Springer - at least The Jerry Springer Show was staged.

(3,145 posts)If somebody's pushing quick cures or fad diets Oprah's probably had 'em on a time or two.

(5,210 posts)apparently expected her to be psychic --- know in advance that that author (James Frey, was it?) had written a fictional book, not authentic memoir, and all about Oz and Phil and so forth. I happen to not have a problem with any of them, but it's ridiculous for someone to have expected her to know in advance that they'd be controversial at some point. SMH
