(574 posts)Cheney, for example, isn't in jail because we Democrats never even tried to hold him accountable.

(50,254 posts)And I'd like to take this opportunity to salute your choice of posting name.
The Minutemen were political punk legends in the Eighties, and the loss of D.Boon, their lead vocalist, in a car crash was a major blow to the anti-Reagan resistance.
I remember that we were told, in the run-up to the 2006 elections, that a Democratic congress couldn't pass much of anything that mattered, but that we should be ok with that because Dems would chair the committees and investigate everything Bush and Cheney had done. We took Congress, but the investigations never seemed to happen, and then the president we elected said we had to leave it all in the past.
If they hadn't left it all in the past, if they had gone after Bush and Cheney, particularly after 2008, there is no way the Right would ever have been able to make a comeback.
And it would have served as a warning to them that they could expect to be held accountable for future conduct. Instead, they act with impunity.
