Amazon Reviewers Heart 'Fire and Fury'

AMAZON REVIEWERS ARE LOVING 'FIRE AND FURY,' MICHAEL WOLFF'S GOSSIPY WHITE HOUSE BOOK

BY ALEXANDER NAZARYAN ON 1/5/18 AT 12:12 PM

Journalist Michael Wolff’s new book, Fire and Fury, may be the bane of the White House these days, but readers eager for political gossip are loving it, at least if early Amazon reviews are to be believed.

The book currently occupies the much-envied top spot on Amazon’s list of best-selling books. That mirrors overnight reports of some physical bookstores in the Washington, D.C., area having sold out of the book just minutes after it went on sale at midnight Thursday.

As of Friday morning, Wolff’s book has an average review of 4.8 stars, with 89 percent of reviewers giving the book five stars. As of this writing, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House has two one-star reviews, even as it has been publicly derided by President Donald Trump; his press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders; and others. That appears to have only helped sales.

“DEAR COMRADE BUDDY PLEASE DO NOT BE OF READING. VERY BAD,” says one of the comments, which appears to have been written by an internet troll, given the dearth of identifying information about the reviewer, “keepwrecking,” who has read and reviewed no other books or items on Amazon.

I doubt 90% of the reviewers have actually read what they’re critiquing.

But I’ll buy it anyway just to piss off the trumptards.

first these days, which often tell me more faster than the positives.

If a novel's too simplistic for more sophisticated readers, the one negative among 20 happy positives is very likely to be warning of that. And, of course, for books touching on politicized issues, the people they offend, and why, says a lot. If reviews average surprisingly negative for, say, something one wouldn't expect to draw a pop readership, it might indicate right wing media have sicced listeners on it and its author, making me look closer for why.

No doubt there's a lot more to look for, and it'd be fun to read a real analysis of what's to be found in these things.

one-star critiques are funny.

VERY SAD!!!!!
I’ve read a lot of books, more than anyone, and this book is a DISGRACE. Wolff is a loser, a total loser and everyone knows it. You know it, I know it, everyone knows it. This book is not for smart people. It’s for very dumb people—ok very dumb people like, not the kind of book I would read because I’m one of the SMARTEST PEOPLE. Ask anyone, anywhere in the world—it’s true! If you like to read words, and I like to read words—I read a lot of words, every day. All kinds of words. More words than most people know. People are always asking me about the words I read, because everyone wants to know—so if you want to read really good words, like really BIG BEAUTIFUL WORDS, you should read The Art of the Deal. It’s a really great book, really fantastic—just fantastic and one of the best books you can read.
