(2,205 posts)Lurking behind the medias fascination with Grahams singlehood is an assumption about his sexuality. Gay rumors have long plagued the senator, and other South Carolina politicians have even implied that Graham is closeted. (Graham has declared that he aint gay.) These whispers become shouts on the late-night circuit, where comedians like Jon Stewart and John Oliver earn laughs by ridiculing Grahams ostensibly effeminate mannerisms. Recently, Larry Wilmore felt compelled to push back against one of his guests, who laughingly stated she thinks Graham is gay. Heres the thing, Wilmore said:
Sometimes people mak[e] that insinuation, like theres something wrong with you if you are single at a certain age. They always put you down as damaged or gay, like those are related.

(5,730 posts)within the party. Trump always has left a path of destruction behing him (bankruptcies, unpaid workers), and he usually comes out relatively unscathed. Manafort, Bannon, Flynn and others are going down for their illegal deeds while getting him elected (no sympathy for any of them), but Trump's still playing.
Billy Bush is fired for the interview and Trump becomes Prez.
Lindsey and others have helped normalize him again.

(82,849 posts)I'll bet you don't, Chuckles. I surmise that your ass is on the line here, as well as a bunch of other corrupt Republican office-holders. You're dead serious about derailing any investigation, and your fatuous statement about everyone needing to follow the law and be truthful with the FBI should earn you several roundhouse kicks to the nads.

(5,730 posts)spy, as far as we know. He wasn't working for the UK at the time, unless he had some side gigs we do not know about . I wish they would too, but May is overwhelmed with her own troubles and Brexit, plus they need us to be their BFF now for trade.
This probably ends his career with a few million $$$ attorney fees
I guess he will write books though, if the Repubs don't figure out a way to send him to prison. They are hunting for scapegoats.
ProudLib72
(17,984 posts)There was big deal made about just who this Steele character was. As I recall, someone from MI-6 or the government who knew Steele when he worked for MI-6 vouched for him. There may have been some from our own intelligence who vouched for his credentials as well.
I just hope this goes nowhere.
Alice11111
(5,730 posts)He was hiding out for awhile. Several reports said that.he was respected, and he had possibly done work for the FBI, (possibly in between being commissioned by the conservatives--as they are being referred to now) and Hillary).
Then, there were reports that Jeb! had initially commissioned it, which makes since, and he never denied it. As all of the Repubs were dropping out, then Hillary eventually picked it up.
It is so obvious that the Repubs are covering their own butts and making this a threat to anyone who exposes facts against them. It won't improve our relationship with the UK. Our allies will be less likely to give us information, lest they get caught up in scandals or have their own intelligence used as a political football by the Repubs. A few Repubs get that, but most have the CYA priority.
Oh well, we're Number 1! America first and in it's own cocoon.
ProudLib72
(17,984 posts)I could swear I saw that toward the beginning of the discussion and then later on it was verified that he had, indeed, commissioned and partially paid Steele. I haven't heard that this time, though. Maybe someone needs to remind these senators of that little fact (as well as the fact that Mueller is a republican).
Can you imagine if Jeb had won? Would we have seen the pee tapes by now? Not that I like any of the Bushes, but Jeb (and some congress people) would probably have wanted to kill off this populist candidate hype once and for all.
Alice11111
(5,730 posts)He wouldn't be playing footsie with the Russians, but the Bushes have been known to cheat...most all Repubs.

(115,789 posts)merely political tribalism (protecting "our" president/party). This is so off the wall (not to mention unlikely to occur, since Steele, a British subject, is outside the jurisdiction of this ridiculous kangaroo court) that they have to be trying to protect their very own asses by trying to discredit the entire investigation. Kompromat? Dodgy financial dealings with the Russians? If it's anything like that, Mueller will find out. They are not helping themselves.

(7,135 posts)even aware that as a British subject, Steele owes the US government precisely nothing?
This a gratuitous slap in the face to the professionalism of MI6. I hope its people are working overtime on dozens more dossiers with kompromat on Trump.
What is it about Trump that makes so many public figures go out and ruin their own reputations and dignity? I just dont get it.
